Background

Since the age of ten, Nami has endured life under the Arlong Pirates’ control. After witnessing the death of her adoptive mother, Bell-mère, she was forced to work for Arlong’s crew, drawing sea charts and stealing wealth to collect one hundred million Beli to buy back her village. 42

Her experiences made money synonymous with hope and survival. Rather than prey on civilians, she became a thief who specifically targets pirates and their treasure. 1 19
