Background

Chu Yanxiao was born two years before Su Leyun. Before Leyun's birth, Su Minghui and Fu Siwen jokingly agreed that the child Su Minghui was believed to be carrying—a girl, according to a prenatal examination—would become Yanxiao's future bride. Yanxiao remembered the conversation and immediately claimed newborn Leyun as his “little bride,” despite Leyun being a boy. 3

After meeting Leyun, Yanxiao began visiting him constantly at the postpartum care center. Even when Fu Siwen could not accompany him, he arranged to be driven there and never missed a day. 7

Personality

Yanxiao is openly affectionate, single-minded, and possessive where Su Leyun is concerned. He consistently calls Leyun his “little wife,” insists that they will marry when they grow up, and judges the question of whether a boy can be a wife entirely by beauty. 3 27 43

He is fiercely protective despite his young age. When he learns that Zhou Guomin intends harm toward Leyun, he physically places himself between them and threatens to fight Zhou to protect his “wife.” 11 He is similarly distressed by the possibility of losing Chu Xuan, becoming clingy toward his older brother and waiting awake for his return after the fate-reversal ritual. 23 26 40

Yanxiao is also sensitive and easily moved to tears, particularly when Leyun is unconscious or when he is falsely accused at school. Leyun teasingly calls him a “crybaby.” 41 44

Yanxiao meets Leyun shortly after his birth, hears his thoughts, and refuses to accept that Leyun cannot be his bride. His persistent visits establish him as Leyun's closest childhood companion and a rival to Su Yibei. 3 7 8

Protecting Leyun from Zhou Guomin

After hearing Leyun's warning, Yanxiao refuses to leave Leyun's side and confronts Zhou Guomin directly. His outburst exposes knowledge of Zhou's intention to harm Leyun, alarming the adults present. 11

Chu Xuan's Illness and Fate Reversal

Yanxiao is devastated after learning that Chu Xuan may die, then becomes especially attached to him. He later proposes asking Leyun—the “immortal” he believes in—for help when the Chu Family struggles to counter the fate swap. 23 26 37
