Background / History
Creation and early era
The Primordial Wilderness formed from Pangu after he opened heaven and earth. In its earliest age, the Heavenly Dao had only begun to evolve, while innate spiritual energy was exceptionally abundant; Heavenly Immortals and Golden Immortals were correspondingly common. 5 6
The early world was initially peaceful. The avian race led by the phoenix, the beast race led by the qilin, and the scaled race led by the dragon divided the land into territories, while most sentient beings focused on cultivation. 10
Rise of the three clans
As the three races developed, territorial disputes and racial hostility replaced the early peace. With no restraints on conflict, deaths intensified hatred between the clans and made a major war inevitable. 11
The calamity escalated when Luohu infiltrated and manipulated the three clans, while Rahu Ancestor and demonic beasts spread slaughter across the land. The Western Realm was reduced to a devastated, fiend-infested wasteland through the Immortal-Slaying Formation and the demons’ depredations. 15
The first kalpa ended with Luohu’s fall and the three clans’ withdrawal from contention. The Qilin Ancestor, Ancestral Dragon, and Phoenix Ancestor each swore oaths to the Heavenly Dao, ending their clans’ struggle for dominance. 21
Witch–Demon era
After the first kalpa, the Primordial Wilderness gradually recovered its vitality. The birth of the Twelve Ancestral Shamans from Pangu’s blood essence and the emergence of Dijun and Taiyi marked the rise of the Witch and Demon races. 22
Kunpeng’s creation of Demon Script gave spirit beasts and demons methods to cultivate deliberately rather than relying on instinct. Within three thousand years, 365 great demon clans had emerged across the world. 23 27
The Witch Race later established the Witch-Creation Formation, which gathered foul, turbid, and fiendish qi to produce new Witch clansmen and gave the race a foundation to contend with the demons. 36
Age of the Dao
Hongjun’s attainment of sainthood sent auspicious signs across the entire Primordial Wilderness, prompting great cultivators to seek his teachings at Purple Cloud Palace. 36 37
Following Hongjun’s first sermon, beings of the Primordial Wilderness began pursuing the Dao rather than merely cultivating power, and Taoism entered the mainstream of the world. 41
Geography
- North Sea — Mu Jizi awakened here as a nan tree at the sea’s edge. It later became the site of Two Sages Island, a secluded Dao field rich in innate spiritual energy. 5 14 47
- Mount Buzhou — Formed from Pangu’s spine; a sacred mountain containing innate treasures and subjecting cultivators to an oppressive force. 12 13
- Western Realm — Ravaged by Luohu’s Immortal-Slaying Formation into a hostile wasteland of volcanoes, hurricanes, snow, swamps, and fiends. 15
- Qilin sacred gorge — The sacred land of the Qilin Tribe, located north of Mount Buzhou. 12
- Chaos — Lies beyond the Thirty-Third Heaven. It is filled with chaos qi, the four elements, and the Five Elements; contact with chaos qi can assimilate and extinguish a cultivator’s body and Dao. 37
Natural Laws and Cultivation
Spiritual environment
- The newly formed Primordial Wilderness possesses vast reserves of raw innate spiritual energy, allowing even ordinary creatures to cultivate rapidly. 6
- Innate objects and spirit treasures were initially widespread, but became scarce after successive collection by great powers, devastation caused by Luohu’s demons, and later refinement by newly awakened beings. 27
- Spirit treasures possess spirituality and may summon cultivators whose attributes match them; they cannot be forcibly claimed before their destined opportunity arrives. 10 11
Heavenly Dao
- The Heavenly Dao was still evolving at the beginning of creation, making early heavenly tribulations less stable and based on rough assessments of a cultivator’s aura. 5 9
- It rewards beings who survive heavenly tribulations with halos that aid their transformation. 10
- It also grants merit for actions aligned with its order, including the destruction of demons and the creation of Demon Script. 16 23
- The Heavenly Dao’s judgments are absolute: Luohu was destroyed after his defeat, while the three clan ancestors’ oaths ended their eras of dominance. 21

Innate Formations and Treasures
The Primordial Wilderness contains innate formations that may trap, kill, defend, or combine all three functions. Trapping formations disrupt paths and divine sense; killing formations directly attack intruders; defensive formations protect their users. 10
- Eastern Green Lotus Treasure-Colored Flag — One of the Five Directional Flags formed from remnants of the Chaos Green Lotus. It can evolve the Myriad Woods Trapping-Killing Formation, which uses forests to confuse divine sense and imprison targets. 11
- Northern Black-Origin Water-Control Flag — One of the Five Directional Flags; it can evolve an illusion formation. 11 37
- Central Wuji Apricot-Yellow Flag — Can evolve a defensive formation. 11
- Southern Flame-Illuminating Flag — Can evolve a killing formation. 11
- Western Plain-Color Cloud Realm Flag — One of the Five Directional Flags, later bestowed as the Immortal-Gathering Banner; its influence compels non-Golden Immortal immortals to acknowledge its holders’ authority. 11 47
Inhabitants and Factions
- Bird, Beast, and Scaled Clans — The three dominant early races; their rivalry led to the first great calamity. 10 11 21
- Demon Race — A broad population of spirit beasts, plants, and monsters. Demon Script enabled many of them to gain intelligence and cultivate systematically. 23 27
- Witch Race — Descended from Pangu’s blood essence and led by the Twelve Ancestral Shamans; they do not cultivate primordial spirits but possess formidable physical strength and inherited divine abilities. 22 34
- Innate great divinities — Powerful beings born from primordial qi, spiritual roots, celestial phenomena, or other innate origins. Many emerged after the first kalpa to seek treasures, influence, and the Dao. 15 27
- Demonic beasts and resentful spirits — Products of Luohu’s calamity. Resentful spirits exist between illusion and nothingness, making them immune to ordinary spells. 15 17
Trivia
- The phrase “until one becomes a Saint, one is nothing but an ant” is repeatedly validated by the scale of calamities and the overwhelming power of Quasi-Sect Masters and Saints. 20 21 37
- The world’s early abundance allowed rapid advancement, but later ages saw innate resources become increasingly difficult to obtain. 6 27
