Background / History

Qilin Ancestor swore before the Great Dao that the Qilin Clan would safeguard the Primordial Wilderness, govern the Central Land, and become foremost among beasts. The Great Dao accepted the vow with immeasurable merit, raising the clan's fortune and establishing it as one of the three strongest clans alongside the Dragon and Phoenix Clans. Qilin Ancestor's cultivation rose to the peak of the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal realm through this merit. 7

The clan's strength was reinforced by the White Tiger Clan, which supported its claim over beast-kind. Although the Dragon Clan was considered the strongest of the three overlords, the Qilin Clan and Phoenix Clan were close enough in power to maintain a tripartite balance. 7

The Qilin Clan claimed Mount Buzhou as its base and expanded from its foothills into the surrounding Central Land. It could not permanently inhabit the mountain itself because Pangu's pressure was too intense; most clansmen instead lived at a distance where the pressure was manageable. 63

During the campaign against the Hundred Tribes, the Qilin Clan joined the Dragon and Phoenix Clans in demanding that beastly races submit or be destroyed. The conquered races nominally swore loyalty to the Qilin Clan, but many altered their oaths to serve Qilin Ancestor personally rather than the clan itself—an arrangement that would leave the clan vulnerable should its ancestor fall. 80 81

Qilin possess a composite bestial form, with a dragon's head, deer antlers, lion's eyes, tiger's back, bear's waist, snake scales, roe-deer body, ox-like tail, horse hooves, and a rounded crown bearing two horns. 63

Mount Buzhou Ambush

After a Primordial Unity Golden Immortal Qilin observed Luohou refining the Heavenly Demon Pagoda on Mount Buzhou, the clan concluded that he was no stronger than a Peak Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal. Believing the pagoda to be a Top-Grade Innate Spirit Treasure on its territory, it sent twenty-five elites to kill Luohou and seize it. 135

The clan's calculation was fatally wrong: Luohou was a Quasi-Sage. A Fire Qilin provoked him into battle, and Luohou slaughtered all twenty-four remaining elite Qilin after the guide had already departed. 136 137

War with Star Heaven

The Qilin Clan regarded Yuan Tian's Star Heaven, established beyond the Thirty-Six Heavens, as an intrusion upon its private reserve around Mount Buzhou. It also suspected Yuan Tian of being responsible for Luohou's earlier slaughter of its elites. 141 142

After initially delaying its attack until its Quasi-Sages were prepared, the clan dispatched an overwhelming army. Yuan Tian's concealed Quasi-Sage cultivation and the Twelve Heavenly Guards' formations killed the Fire and Ice Qilin leaders; the surviving hundred thousand Qilin soldiers were then used as live combat training for the Star Clan until none remained. 142 144 145 146

The destruction of this expedition left the clan politically exposed. The Dragon and Phoenix Clans threatened its territory, then extorted one-fifth of its treasury under the pretense of aiding it against outsiders. 147 148

Qilin Mountain Raid

Yuan Tian infiltrated the Qilin Clan's secret Small World, plundered its accumulated treasury, and obtained the Twelve-Petaled Purifying Green Lotus. Lin Tian shadowed him throughout the intrusion but waited for a decisive ambush opportunity. 153 154

Yuan Tian defeated and sealed Lin Tian, then escaped before Qilin Ancestor returned. He concealed the relevant events with the Time Erosion seal, causing the clan's combined divination to fail and injure Qilin Ancestor through backlash. 163 164

Innate Supreme Treasure Crisis

The fusion of the Purifying Green Lotus with Yuan Tian's World-Destroying Black Lotus created the Fourteenth-Rank Azure Lotus, drawing Quasi-Sages and rogue cultivators to Qilin territory. Because the phenomenon occurred within its domain, the Qilin Clan was blamed for possessing the new Innate Supreme Treasure despite not having it. 158 221

Unable to convince the gathering experts of its innocence, the clan fought alongside the Dragon and Phoenix Clans against rogue cultivators. The alliance won, but the Qilin Clan lost three Quasi-Sages, suffered further severe injuries, and was forced into another costly settlement with its supposed allies. 222 223 224

Eastern Sea Battle

When Luohou left the Heavenly Demon Pagoda as bait after faking his death, the Qilin and Phoenix Clans demanded that the Dragon Clan surrender it. They claimed it was the Innate Supreme Treasure previously monopolized from the Qilin Clan, though the demand served as a pretext to seize the Dragon Clan's prize. 259 260

The Qilin–Phoenix alliance attacked while the Dragon Clan was weakened, but could not commit all of its forces far from home. Dragon reinforcements eventually crushed the attackers, leaving the Qilin Clan with heavy losses and no treasure. 260 261
