Qin Ran advanced cautiously, steadily closing the distance between them.

When they were less than ten meters apart, the figure tilted its head, suddenly revealing the face it had kept hidden behind the utility pole. Qin Ran saw it in full.

What kind of face was that?

It had none of the usual facial features.

Only a sheet of skin covered it.

A low howl came from beneath that skin, making ripples spread across its surface and wash over the entire body like waves of water.

Under Qin Ran's gaze, the figure's whole body twisted in those same undulating waves.

Qin Ran's eyes were involuntarily drawn to those distortions. Vipers seemed to appear before him, dancing along with them.

Crimson forked tongues flickered in and out.

The vipers' cold eyes fixed on Qin Ran's exposed skin.

Then the snakes sprang up together, about to engulf him.

But the next instant, everything vanished without a trace.
