Speculation

Qin Ran pushed the door open, immediately drawing the attention of everyone in the room.

On one side stood three shabbily dressed men in the middle of the study, their faces unfriendly and their eyes vicious.

On the other was an elderly man with graying hair.

He wore a linen shirt, with a pair of glasses hanging from his chest, and sat behind the desk.

At the sight of Qin Ran, the old man rose instinctively, about to say something.

But someone else spoke first.

"Who are you?"

"I'd advise you to mind your own business!"

The burliest of the three men turned and sized Qin Ran up as he spoke.

His voice was full of menace.

To Qin Ran, though, the man was all bluster.

He looked strong, but there were no calluses on his hands, neither on his palms nor his fingertips. And from the moment Qin Ran entered, neither he nor his two underlings had shifted their positions. Even now, the man was looking at him sideways.

It all told Qin Ran that the three were amateurs.

They might be able to bully ordinary people with their size.

Recalling Herbert's earlier assessment of the three, Qin Ran had a fair idea of what he was dealing with.

He kept walking.

Ignoring the threat, Qin Ran headed toward Herbert.

"Bastard!"

"I'll show you what Boss Olli can do!"

It was the burliest man again.

Then all three charged straight at Qin Ran.

"Watch out!"

Herbert shouted a warning from behind the desk, but before the scholar could finish speaking, the three men flew backward even faster than they had charged and slammed into the wall.

Bang!

Thud, thud, thud!

The impact shook several books off a nearby shelf and onto the floor.
