The towering monster in a nurse's uniform, its mouth a gaping maw, went flying and slammed heavily into the reception desk.
The solid wooden desk instantly shattered, sending splinters flying into the promotional portrait, which had now gone completely blank.
"You were hiding in the portrait all along?"
Qin Ran glanced in surprise at the monster as it struggled back to its feet.
Monster was certainly the right word for it.
It had no eyes, ears, or nose, only a gaping maw, and each finger on its hands was a surgical scalpel.
The muscles of its arms and legs were thick and powerful.
They kept rippling with its breathing, like the twitching red muscles of a skinned frog in an electrical stimulation experiment.
Combined with the bizarre depression in its lower abdomen, its appearance made it impossible for anyone to associate it with the nurse depicted in that promotional portrait.

If Qin Ran hadn't been certain that a five- or six-year-old girl couldn't reach the window in that iron door, especially when being chased with no time to set up a stool or anything similar, he might have fallen for its deception.
But now?
The little girl passed straight through the two iron doors and hovered above the monster's head.
Its long golden hair turned a withered yellow, like weeds, while its sea-blue eyes became pitch-black, and its fair, radiant skin turned an ashen, bluish gray.
It looked every inch a vengeful ghost or vicious spirit.
Not a trace of its former holiness remained.
"Hiss, hiss!"
"Huff, huff!"
Sounds like a rattlesnake's hiss and a jackal's panting issued from its
