After confirming the broad outline of their plan to return to the past and collect the six Infinity Stones again, Tony, Rocket Raccoon, and Dr. Banner returned to Earth and threw themselves into researching a time travel device.

Although, in the current era, the combined brilliance of Tony and several other top scientific geniuses in the universe was already enough to propel Earth's technology forward in explosive leaps and reach the future faster,

time travel was still an extremely science-fictional concept.

Tony's first thought was to build an FTL Engine.

According to the core conclusion of Special Relativity, an object with mass could not reach the speed of light, much less exceed it.

This led to the conclusion that the faster an object with mass traveled, the slower time passed for it—the Time Dilation Effect.

It also gave rise to the hypothesis that once an object exceeded the speed of light, time would flow backward and it could return to the past.

But as soon as this idea was proposed, Captain Marvel Carol Danvers's existence disproved it.

No one understood FTL Engines better than she did. After all, her current superpowers had been accidentally awakened by an FTL Engine's energy. She herself could now fly through the universe at faster-than-light speeds with ease, yet she had never traveled through time. She had merely experienced the fact that the faster she went, the slower time passed.
