"Unreasonable?"
Strange slowly rose to his feet and questioned Thanos, "Then is murdering billions of lives reasonable?"
"It is a necessary sacrifice, Strange." Thanos was not swayed by Strange's probing words. After countless trials, his heart had long become as solid as stone.
"My heart is like a tree. The more it longs for the light above, the deeper its roots must reach downward, into the soil, into the depths of darkness."

Though he did not want to admit it, when Thanos said those words, Strange truly saw a glimmer of humanity in him.
Thanos raised his left hand, clad in the Infinity Gauntlet, and continued, "Once all six Stones are gathered, with a single snap of my fingers, those randomly chosen will vanish into dust without any pain. I believe that is mercy."
"And then?" Strange slowly walked toward Thanos, one step at a time.
"Then comes long-overdue rest."
As though sharing his retirement plans with an old friend, Thanos answered every question with utter ease:
"To sit and watch the sun rise and set amid the gratitude of the entire universe. The hardest choices require the strongest will."
"Then you'll find that humanity's will is no weaker than yours!" Strange summoned two magical shields in his hands and took up a fighting stance before Thanos.
