Background

Saeko lived alone at the Busujima Kendo Dojo while her father traveled abroad to expand the dojo's business. After hearing a collision near her home, she investigated with a wooden sword and discovered Xiao Miao and Alice abducting Koichi Shido. Although she disliked Koichi, she attempted to stop them because she believed it was the right thing to do. 25 26

Xiao Miao distracted and overpowered her, then brought her to the dojo while he and Alice interrogated Wisteria. Saeko overheard Wisteria confessing his involvement in Umbrella Corporation's corruption and realized that she had misjudged Xiao Miao. Once freed, she wanted to kill Wisteria herself, but Xiao Miao stopped her and warned her to leave Tokonosu City. 26 27

Before the Dead Body Virus outbreak, Saeko intended to travel to the United States to find her father. Delays sorting through her mother's belongings left her trapped in Tokonosu when the outbreak began. She joined survivors aboard a bus, fought the Dead Bodies surrounding it, and faced harassment and coercion from other survivors who tried to force her to keep fighting. 30

Xiao Miao and Alice rescued her group during their pursuit of Dr. Isaac. Saeko joined their escape, helped pilot a yacht from Tokonosu City, and learned of the Travelers of All Heavens. Personality

Saeko is brave and guided by a personal sense of justice. She intervenes to defend Koichi Shido despite disliking him, and later volunteers to help clear Dead Bodies from around the survivors' bus. 25 30

She privately believes she has a violent streak. In middle school, she deliberately lured a groper into an unmonitored alley before severely injuring him with her practice sword; the excitement she felt afterward became a source of lasting inner conflict. The chance to travel through dangerous worlds offers her a way to embrace battle without the constraints she associates with ordinary life. 32

Although initially suspicious of Xiao Miao, Saeko becomes increasingly curious about him and ultimately places complete trust in him by accepting his soul contract.
