"Bang."
Lin Fei felt his entire body fly into the air as he fell rapidly, then slammed heavily onto the ground. His head felt dizzy, and he heard a sharp screeching of brakes in his ears. At this point, he could no longer open his eyes, and his remaining consciousness registered only the chaotic sounds all around him.
"Call the police quickly, someone's been in a car accident."
*****
Endless darkness. In the hazy blur, Lin Fei seemed to see a bright light, and as if waking up suddenly from a nightmare, he snapped his eyes open, gasping for air in great gulps. His chest heaved up and down, and his heart was filled with terror.
Where is this? A hospital?
Lin Fei remembered being sent flying by a high-speed car, so he hurriedly checked himself up and down. He wore a fluffy pair of pajamas, lying on a soft, large bed, and his body was completely uninjured.
Strange, I was clearly sent flying by a car, so why am I completely uninjured now? And even if I weren't hurt, I should be in a hospital. Is this a hospital?
Only then did Lin Fei raise his head to look around the room. The room was very spacious, and the bed even had curtains. Through the curtains, the azure sky outside the window was visible.
Gradually, however, Lin Fei noticed something was wrong. There were no electric lights, no air conditioning, and not even anything related to electricity whatsoever.
There was only a writing desk, a tall wooden chair, and a round stool. On the desk sat several thread-bound books and a candelabra, with three unburned candles stuck in it.
A jolt went through Lin Fei's heart, and he hurried over to a huge mirror in the room. The mirror reflected a youthful and unfamiliar face: a high bridge of the nose, a slender face, and a sickly pallor. Though he possessed a head of long black hair, his eyes were blue.
The person in the mirror was no longer the familiar appearance Lin Fei knew!
Who on earth am I?
Lin Fei muttered to himself, collapsing onto the bed. Immediately, a wave of intense pain struck his head, and a flood of unfamiliar memories rushed in like a tide.
Merlin? I am Wilson Merlin?
Lin Fei quickly sorted through this sudden influx of memories. The world he had transmigrated to was still very backward, somewhat resembling the Western Middle Ages of his past life, ruled by many kingdoms. His current location was Blackwater City, a medium-sized city in the Bright Kingdom.
Merlin's father, Old Wilson, was a minor noble. Although he was merely a baron at the very bottom of the nobility, he had earned it through solid military exploits. In his youth, he had joined the army, served in it for twenty years, and even participated in the Bright Kingdom's campaign to subjugate the eastern heretics of the Black Moon Kingdom, performing great military service.
Upon retiring, Old Wilson was granted the title of baron by the king along with a sizable fief. However, Old Wilson preferred living in the city, so he only went to his fief when it was time to collect taxes.
In Merlin's mind, there were many memories concerning Old Wilson, but the memories of his mother were very vague, limited to just some general information. Merlin's mother was an Easterner who had fled as a refugee to the Bright Kingdom. His father married her and bore Merlin, and this head of black hair was inherited from his mother.
Yet his mother died shortly after giving birth to Merlin, so even Merlin himself could not clearly remember her face.
"Knock, knock, knock."
Just as Merlin was still immersed in the memories within his mind, a knock sounded from outside the door. Merlin hurriedly returned to the bed and spoke up, "Come in!"
The bedroom door was gently pushed open, and a maid dressed in gray maid attire walked in, holding a stack of clothes in her hands. She spoke softly to Merlin, "Master Merlin, these are your clothes for today."
Seeing this maid, memories immediately stirred in Merlin's mind. This was his personal maid, named Lucija.
Merlin answered calmly, "Alright, leave the clothes here and head out."
Lucija had kept her head down the entire time, but now she raised it slightly, allowing Merlin to catch a glimpse of her appearance. Her facial skin was very fair, and though she had a few small freckles, they did not detract from Lucija's beauty overall.
"Master Merlin, Miss Mei Xue is waiting for you downstairs to have breakfast."
Merlin nodded and said, "I know. I'll be right down."
Lucija curtsied slightly, lifted the hem of her skirt, and gracefully left the bedroom. Only then did Merlin get up, pick up the clothes Lucija had placed on the table, and quickly changed into them.
The white shirt inside this set of clothes was very comfortable, likely made of cotton cloth, and lacked the slightest trace of machine stitching—it was obviously purely handmade. Slipping into the black outer coat, Merlin stood before the mirror and carefully inspected himself. Aside from his gaze retaining some shadows of his past life, everything else felt completely unfamiliar to him.
Merlin left the bedroom, walked downstairs, and arrived at the hall to see his younger sister, Mei Xue, sitting straight in a chair with a look of dissatisfaction on her face, clearly having waited for quite some time.
"Hurry up, Merlin, or we'll be late for the Church later."
Mei Xue urged impatiently.
"Oh? Where are we going later?"
Merlin sat in the chair and asked with a frown. He truly did not know where they were going today; although he had accepted many of Wilson Merlin's memories, some memories were still missing.
Mei Xue opened her eyes wide, barely restraining herself from blowing her top, and said in a low voice, "Merlin, don't play dumb. Even though Father went to the fief to collect taxes, before he left he gave instructions that you must go to train with the swordsman Pero at the Church every single day!"
Merlin said nothing, silently storing all of this in his mind. Mei Xue's words just now had revealed a great deal of information: Old Wilson had gone to the fief and would not be returning anytime soon. This way, at least until he thoroughly integrated his memories, he wouldn't have to worry about exposing flaws and being discovered by Old Wilson.
"I know."
Merlin replied calmly, then picked up the knife and fork on the table and began to eat breakfast.
Breakfast consisted of bread, milk, and some very thick wheat porridge. The flavor was quite good, and Merlin's appetite opened up as he drank three small bowls in succession.
Merlin ate quickly. After wiping away the remaining food scraps from the corners of his mouth, he finally had time to carefully observe Mei Xue.
Mei Xue was born to Old Wilson's eighth wife. As for what that wife's name was, Merlin had no idea.
Upon mentioning Old Wilson's eighth wife, a pair of enormous breasts unexpectedly surfaced in Merlin's mind—yes, enormous, plump breasts. Merlin had once privately referred to Old Wilson's eighth wife as the Big-Breasted Wife.
Thinking of the Big-Breasted Wife, Merlin subconsciously glanced at Mei Xue's chest. Although Mei Xue was only fourteen, she had already developed quite well, with a curvaceous figure throughout. Especially that pair of breasts—perhaps having inherited the superior genes of the Big-Breasted Wife, they were quite substantial and very spectacular.
Mei Xue did not notice Merlin's gaze and instead said anxiously, "Let's go quickly, we're running out of time. Swordsman Pero is very strict."
Thus, both Merlin and Mei Xue quickly boarded the carriage that had been prepared long ago and headed toward the Church.
