Elemental Swordsmen

Merlin was still in a daze, while Anson beside him said enviously, "Swordsman Pero is getting more and more formidable. The commotion he caused last time wasn't nearly this great. It looks like becoming a Level Two Flame Swordsman is a sure thing for him. People with strong elemental affinity really cultivate quickly. Swordsman Pero has spent only three short years training, yet he is already close to becoming a Level Two Flame Swordsman. Even in Blackwater City's church, his cultivation speed ranks among the best."

"Flame Swordsman?"

Merlin's heart stirred. He had heard Swordsman Pero mention "Elemental Swordsmen" several times before, but he had never known what it meant. He had assumed it was merely a name for those who practiced swordsmanship, but apparently, that was not the case.

Only part of Merlin's memories had fused for the time being, and many crucial memories were still missing, including those concerning Elemental Swordsmen. He still had no impression of them whatsoever. He desperately wanted to learn everything about Elemental Swordsmen, but he knew he could not ask directly, or he might arouse suspicion.

So, he began probing Anson indirectly. Fortunately, Anson did not suspect anything. Since he was close to Merlin, he inadvertently revealed quite a bit of information.

It turned out that Swordsman Pero was no ordinary swordsman, but an Elemental Swordsman who possessed tremendous power!

In this world, many people were born with elemental affinity. They could draw the invisible elements around them into their bodies. Once the elements accumulated to a certain degree, they could use special methods to channel them out and unleash immense power. Such people were known as Elemental Swordsmen.

Of course, drawing elements into one's body did not necessarily require a sword. For example, some people possessed an affinity for wind elements. Combined with a powerful bow, they could become terrifying hunters. They were called Elemental Swordsmen only because the overwhelming majority of people in this world used swords.

Swordsman Pero was already a true Flame Swordsman, but Kadoron, Mei Xue, and the others merely possessed elemental affinity. They still lacked the ability to fully channel the power of the elements within their bodies, or rather, they had not accumulated enough elements yet. Thus, they could not yet be considered true Elemental Swordsmen.

However, as long as they cultivated perseveringly, they might become powerful Elemental Swordsmen and possess terrifying strength no weaker than the punch Swordsman Pero had just thrown.

After learning this, Merlin felt greatly excited. Did such powerful strength not mean that he, too, could possess it?

But Anson's next words extinguished his hopes.

"Merlin, Elemental Swordsmen are powerful and have limitless prospects! But we have no elemental affinity at all, so we are destined to never become Elemental Swordsmen. You are better off than I am. Your younger sister, Mei Xue, has quite a high affinity for fire elements, so she may become a Flame Swordsman in the future. And you are the absolute heir of the Wilson Family. Even if things go poorly, you can still become a baron. But what about me? I have two older brothers above me. No matter what, it will never be my turn to inherit the title..."

Anson's mood was somewhat low. After saying this, he fell silent.

"No elemental affinity..."

It was as though Merlin had been doused with a bucket of cold water. His emotions immediately calmed down. According to Anson, elemental affinity was the key to becoming an Elemental Swordsman!

Swordsman Pero possessed an affinity for fire elements, allowing him to draw those fire elements into his body and turn them into his own power, ultimately becoming a powerful Flame Swordsman.

Generally speaking, the stronger one's elemental affinity, the easier it was to draw elements into one's body and become a swordsman. Depending on the type of element, they were divided into Flame Swordsmen, Frost Swordsmen, Gale Swordsmen, and many other kinds of swordsmen.

However, the noblest and most promising of them all were Light Swordsmen. Those with an affinity for light elements would become Light Swordsmen once they drew light elements into their bodies.

Almost every Light Swordsman became a guardian swordsman of the Light Church, receiving the church's aid and support. Their cultivation speed was therefore far greater than that of other swordsmen.

But regardless of what kind of Elemental Swordsman one was, elemental affinity was fundamental. Without elemental affinity, one simply could not become an Elemental Swordsman. Merlin, Anson, and the others happened to belong to the group with no elemental affinity whatsoever.

The people who came to practice swordsmanship under Swordsman Pero fell into three categories. The first consisted of commoners without the slightest status or background. Every one of them possessed elemental affinity and belonged to the more gifted group, which was why the church allowed them to come here. If they were fortunate enough to become Elemental Swordsmen, they would be absorbed into the church and become part of its armed force. Kadoron was one of the best among them.

The second category consisted of noble children, but these noble children also possessed elemental affinity. Compared with those commoners, noble children with status and background had much broader prospects. Once they became Elemental Swordsmen, their Lineage would send them to larger cities for further training, and their futures would be limitless. Mei Xue belonged to this category as well.

The third category consisted of people like Merlin and Anson. They were noble children, but they had no elemental affinity, so their future achievements would be limited. Although all three groups practiced swordsmanship under Swordsman Pero, the distinction between them was clear, and each had its own little circle.

After a long while, Merlin thought of Kadoron, who had performed so impressively earlier, and asked softly, "How is Kadoron's elemental affinity?"

"Kadoron? His talent is practically the most outstanding among everyone here, because he possesses an affinity for light elements. Once he successfully draws light elements into his body in the future, he will immediately soar to the heavens and become a guardian swordsman of the church, with limitless prospects. Even though he has not yet become an Elemental Swordsman, he has already attracted the church's attention. Even Swordsman Pero has accepted him as a disciple. It is only a matter of time before he becomes an Elemental Swordsman."

After Anson finished speaking, his gaze drifted toward Kadoron in the front row, his eyes filled with envy.

Perhaps noticing that Merlin was in low spirits, Anson said quietly, "Although Kadoron is a genius, your sister Mei Xue is not lacking in talent either. She also possesses an affinity for fire elements, just like Swordsman Pero. Therefore, Swordsman Pero will certainly teach her with great care. With Mei Xue around, your Wilson Family will not decline for the next several decades. Your future days will be far better than mine."

Merlin's heart stirred. He had not expected his younger sister Mei Xue to possess such exceptional talent. And just as Anson had said, Swordsman Pero's gaze swept over Kadoron and Mei Xue from time to time. He was closely watching the progress of their training, clearly showing how highly he regarded them.
