Li Dong then had Lin Wei and Hao Jianjun take their seats.
He had invited the two of them over today mainly to tell them what these components were actually used for.
Once they were both seated, Li Dong turned on the projector.
A piece of equipment neither of them had ever seen before appeared on the conference room screen.
The main body of the device was a stainless-steel ultra-high-vacuum analysis chamber mounted on an active vibration-isolation platform.
One side of the chamber was connected to a closed-cycle helium-cooled cryogenic sample stage and a sample load-lock chamber.
A local electrode was installed at the tip's front end, leading into an ion flight tube.
If that were all, then the device would have looked like a Laser-Assisted Atom Probe Tomography System, something Lin Wei and Hao Jianjun had naturally seen before.
However, on the other side of its chamber was a compact 14.1 MeV deuterium-tritium pulsed neutron generator.
The exterior of the entire setup was also fitted with a boron-containing polyethylene neutron moderation and absorption layer, as well as a lead gamma-ray shielding layer.
It made the whole thing look like a combination of an electron microscope and a compact accelerator.
