Soul Rings manifest as luminous halos associated with a Soul Master's released power. They may hover beneath the user or emerge above a dead Soul Beast before absorption. 7 26

Properties

Soul Skill Source

A Soul Ring normally grants a Soul Skill related to the abilities of the Soul Beast from which it came. Tang San notes that without knowing Yu Xiaogang's third ring's source Soul Beast, neither Yu Xiaogang nor Luo Sanpao can reliably identify the skill's function. 7

• Yu Xiaogang's unexpected third purple Soul Ring grants Golden Gate, a spatial door that transfers objects to an apparently variable exit point. 7
• Tang San's planned first Mandrake Snake ring is expected to grant Entangling and add toxicity to Blue Silver Grass, though he refuses the available damaged ring. 29

Absorption Risks

A ring is not automatically safe merely because its listed age appears suitable.

• The Ironthorn Vine presented as a 412-year Soul Beast is actually at least 768 years old, making it unsuitable for Tang San's first ring. 18 19
• The apparent 423-year Mandrake Snake is actually around 400 years old and has been drug-stimulated, leaving its Soul Power unstable. 27
• Yu Xiaogang warns that forcibly absorbing a structurally unstable ring can damage the recipient's meridians, cause Martial Soul backlash, or shatter the Martial Soul entirely. 27
• The damaged Mandrake Snake's ring begins dissipating before it can be safely used. 28

Storage and Condensation

• Yu Xiaogang suggests that a Soul Tool might be able to suppress or preserve a Soul Ring temporarily after a Soul Beast dies, but no such tool is available. 29
• Upon reaching Level 10, Xu Zhou's Black Ancient Book offers him immediate first-ring condensation from three possible sources. He rejects all three because one is damaged, one exceeds his tolerance, and one is unidentified. 30
• After postponing condensation, Xu Zhou is designated a Prospective Soul Master rather than receiving a first Soul Ring. 30

Artificial Alteration

The Mandrake Snake incident reveals that Soul Rings can be manipulated before absorption.

Story Role

Soul Rings are central to the conflict over Tang San's first Soul Ring. Original-story factions, merchants, academy personnel, and Spirit Hall operatives repeatedly attempt to force a Mandrake Snake ring onto him in order to recreate a predetermined plot. 16 24 26 29
