Martial Soul Awakening

Martial Souls are the foundation of a Soul Master's cultivation and generally awaken when a child reaches six years old. Martial Soul Hall uses awakening arrays for this process, though free awakenings are conducted only during designated annual periods; families seeking an earlier awakening must pay for the service 25 45.

A rare alternative is self-awakening, in which an exceptionally powerful Martial Soul manifests naturally before an array is used. This may cause visible physical changes in its owner and carries considerable uncertainty 25.

• Innate Soul Power determines a newly awakened individual's initial cultivation.
• Innate Full Soul Power places the awakened Soul Master at level 10 and is considered an exceptional talent 27 46.
• A Martial Soul may mutate during awakening. Such mutations can produce permanent physical traits or leave the Soul Master with an incomplete or abnormal Martial Soul 1 25.
• Twin Martial Souls are extraordinarily rare. In the current era, most holders are believed able to cultivate only one of them without a specialized method 3 17.

Soul Rings

Self-Created Soul Skills

Soul Masters are not limited to Ring-granted abilities. Through study, observation, and training, they can develop self-created Soul Skills suited to their own Martial Souls and fighting styles 9 113.

• Darksteel Hand reinforces the user's hands for combat or forging; its complete-body derivative, Darksteel Body, is more advanced 113.

Martial Soul Fusion Technique

A Martial Soul Fusion Technique combines the powers of two compatible Soul Masters into a stronger shared ability. Its formation is rare enough to be regarded as a source of hope for Soul Masters burdened by flawed Martial Souls 101.

Soul power is described as extraordinary energy formed by combining ambient vital energy with the Soul Master's spiritual and physical energy. Under this view, physical strength and mental power are both essential parts of cultivation rather than secondary traits 28 48.

• High spiritual power is crucial for safely absorbing powerful Soul Rings 27.
