Background

Luo Mingyu comes from a prominent capital family. After his mother died in an accident, his father raised him alone and subjected him to military-style training, partly out of fear that Luo’s strikingly delicate looks would make him seem insufficiently masculine. The training left Luo physically strong but resentful of his father’s strict control. 177 244

Before joining the variety show, Luo had a severely negative public image. Reports portrayed him as a hot-tempered playboy associated with drinking, fighting, street racing, clubbing, and lip-syncing; his reputation had deteriorated beyond what money could easily suppress. 4 His father later attempted to interfere with his entertainment career and blacklist him, ostensibly to protect him. 244
