His eyes snapped open.
Lu Zhou sprang up from where he lay on the bed, his chest heaving as he gasped for breath.
Only then did he realize that, at some point, the back of his clothes had become soaked with clammy sweat...
Rubbing his aching brow, Lu Zhou got out of bed, took a bottle of water from the refrigerator, and drank a mouthful to steady himself.
It had only happened in a world of consciousness, and there hadn't been any demons or monsters there.
But perhaps because it had felt so real, having a memory that didn't belong to this world crammed into his head felt anything but pleasant.
It was like...
He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window and stared out at the bustling city lights for a long time. Only when the bottle of mineral water in his hand no longer felt cold did he turn away from the window.
"It was just..."
"Like a nightmare."
He went to the bathroom and took a shower.
After changing into fresh clothes, Lu Zhou returned to his computer desk and sat down.
He spent about a minute returning to System Space and checking it carefully. The pure white space hadn't changed at all because of the supposedly rare "Void Memory A."
However, the purple sample that had radiated an ominous aura in his inventory had disappeared.
It was as though it had never existed.
Back in reality, Lu Zhou considered things for a moment, opened his notes, and typed a few lines.
[What were those black obelisks?]
[If they were computers, who did they belong to?]
[And what were they calculating?]
Then there were the golden cubes submerged at the bottom of the pool. If he remembered correctly, those things were what "Wreckage Two" had looked like before
