He had drunk his fill the night before.
Getting up first thing in the morning had been painful, too.
The next morning, Lu Zhou dragged himself out of bed early with a splitting headache. After washing up, his powerful metabolism had finally brought him most of the way back to normal. He went downstairs to the hotel's ground-floor buffet restaurant, hurried through breakfast, then climbed into the car already waiting outside.
Yawning as he settled into the back seat, Lu Zhou pinched the aching space between his eyebrows and asked casually.
"What time did I stop drinking last night?"
Wang Peng thought for a moment before answering, "Past midnight... I didn't expect you to manage to get up this morning."
Lu Zhou said, "I only had a couple of drinks. Why wouldn't I be able to get up?"
Wang Peng didn't argue. He simply smiled and asked, "...Where to?"
"IMCRC headquarters," Lu Zhou said.
"All right."
Reaching out with his right hand to set the navigation, Wang Peng deftly turned the steering wheel and drove onto the road outside the hotel.
Leaning against the soft seat, Lu Zhou was about to catch a little sleep on the way when he suddenly remembered blacking out the night before. He coughed awkwardly and said.
"I had a little too much last night. If I said anything stupid, just pretend you didn't hear it."
"It's fine. Everyone has bad days," Wang Peng said with a smile, his hands on the wheel. "Feeling any better? Will you be all right for the unveiling ceremony?"
His usual confidence returned to his face, and Lu Zhou smiled faintly.
"What grand occasion haven't I seen?"
"This is nothing. What could possibly go wrong?"
Although he had called it a small occasion, it was anything but.
