Background

Three years before the Outer Sect Assessment, Zhao Kun viewed Shen Yuan as a gifted rival who surpassed him. He secretly plotted to have Shen Yuan's innate foundation crippled after Shen Yuan was framed for stealing a cultivation technique; however, the sect later lacked direct evidence to punish him for that incident. 23 24

By the time Shen Yuan reappeared at Azure Cloud Sect, Zhao Kun was recognized as the foremost disciple of his outer-sect cohort. He worked through servant steward Liu Er and other subordinates to suppress Shen Yuan, believing Shen Yuan had died after being pushed from a cliff. 5 13

Framing Wang Dong

While serving one month of secluded reflection, Zhao Kun continues operating through planted agents. He arranges for Wang Dong to be framed for stealing medicinal pills, intending to force Shen Yuan to abandon the Inner Sect Test. 24 25 26
