Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Chaotic Undead Skeleton 107 Lowest-quality undead, formed from remnant thoughts mixed with undead death aura; they have almost no potential.
Silver-Bone Undead 107 High-potential undead develop flowing-silver bones, human-level intelligence, and rapid death-aura absorption. The Bigmouth Demon Undead’s skull fully reached this grade.
Gold-Bone Undead 108 The Bigmouth Demon Undead’s soul power rose to Gold-Bone level within a week after merging with Divine Jade Bone, though it lacked a usable skeleton body.
Crystal-Bone Undead / Third Ring 135 The Bigmouth Demon became the sole Third-Ring Crystal-Bone undead in the White-Bone Soul Banner at the time.
Fourth-Ring Skeleton King 341 Released undead refined crystalline bodies and absorbed Blighted Undead Miasma. Eighty percent of the initial cohort completed the breakthrough, while the rest collapsed.

Background / History

The ancient Undying God Cult used Moon Law Fragment imprints and the Soul Refining Ritual to create ritual undead. After its rise, the Undying Empire maintained a population composed of roughly ninety percent living beings and ten percent Undead Skeletons; undead immortality was reserved for meritorious members and elites. When their numbers became excessive, weaker undead were reduced to materials for Divine Jade Bone refinement. 170

Lady White Moon’s awakening caused undead calamity across the Lansya Region. Her moonlight decayed living creatures into skeletons, revived buried remains, and strengthened the dead with concentrated undead death aura. The disaster left Hurricane City surrounded by skeleton hordes and transformed large regions into lands of death. 87 91

Yin Ming began systematically studying undead after obtaining the Moon Law Fragment imprint and Divine Jade Bone. He established the White-Bone Soul Banner as an undead prison, factory, and battlefield domain, using Undead Revival and Undead Enslavement to convert corpses into controlled workers and soldiers. 107 112 129

After developing the Lich Transformation Potion, Yin Ming established the modern Undead Race around the Undying Moon Law Fragment. He later used the Dark Plane, the Endless Bone Sea, and the City of Rest to transition the undead from captive laborers into a self-expanding civilization. 237 256 343

Appearance

Undead are typically animated skeletal beings identified by ghostly blue Soul Fire. Their form depends on their vessel, bone quality, and the materials used in their revival.

  • Soul Fire commonly burns in the eye sockets of skeletal vessels. 107 162
  • A complete skeleton is preferred, but a single bone, severed hand, skull, or even a stone can serve as a vessel. 107
  • The skull—especially the crown bone—is the most compatible and important vessel for an undead. 107
  • Higher-potential undead develop silver, gold, crystal, or Divine Jade Bone qualities. 107 108 135
  • Liches are a humanoid undead variant with withered, corpse-like bodies and Soul Fire burning in their pupils. 239
  • The Undead Clan can include humanoid skeletons, Bone Dragons, Bone Horses, Bone Magic Beasts, and other bone-bodied forms. 256 340

Characteristics

  • Undead linger near the remains they possessed in life. If their bones are moved, they instinctively attempt to locate them. 107
  • Potential is determined primarily by the individual’s strength in life and how recently they died. 107
  • Using a vessel unrelated to an undead’s original remains gradually lowers its potential. 107
  • A normal undead disperses permanently when its skull is shattered; Divine Jade Bone allowed the Bigmouth Demon Undead to survive this rule as an exception. 108
  • Undead require undead death aura to sustain their Soul Fire. Better bone quality reduces this consumption. 108
  • Their apparent immortality is incomplete: lingering obsessions gradually erode intelligence and can reduce them to Chaos Undead. 169
  • Silver-Bone and stronger undead can retain intelligence comparable to ordinary humans and operate in trained formations. 136

Abilities & Skills

Soul Fire

Undead exist through unstable Soul Fire rather than conventional flesh, blood, or elemental bodies.

  • Soul Fire can leave a skeletal vessel and move independently within an Undead Domain. 130
  • Undead may attack by expending Soul Power to drain an opponent’s vitality. 130
  • A large swarm can overcome stronger living targets through accumulated vitality drain, though losses can exceed enemy casualties. 130
  • Soul Fire can be enhanced with Samadhi Divine Flame, making the undead dangerous to touch and allowing them to spread the flame through enemy forces. 135 136

Bone Refinement

Undead growth is based on refinement, absorption, and mutual devouring.

  • Low-grade undead absorb Chaos Undead, while higher grades consume undead of lower or comparable quality. 109
  • Silver-Bone undead can refine skeletal materials into higher-quality bones for Divine Jade Bone production. 109 113
  • Undead workers were organized to refine one Gold Bone and one hundred Silver Bones each month. 112
  • Crystal-grade skeletons can refine their bodies further and become Fourth-Ring Skeleton Kings. 341

Undead Revival and Resurrection

The Undying system distinguishes between creating undead and restoring a dead individual.

  • Undead Revival merges lingering undead with a suitable vessel, creating an undead skeleton. 107 112
  • Resurrection of the Dead can restore an undead with the target’s memories intact, provided Yin Ming possesses the corpse or remnant soul and outranks the target. 233
  • Resurrected targets can be bound by Undead Enslavement, which controls their actions, life and death, and obedience. 233
  • Powerful enemies, including Tree Ancestor Sadi and the Dark Dragon, were killed, resurrected, and converted into undead servants. 233 252

Undead Space and Netherworld

The White-Bone Soul Banner can overlap its internal Undead Space with reality.

  • Imprisoned undead can possess skeletal incarnations formed inside the overlapping space. 129
  • The resulting Netherworld domain allows Soul Fire to swarm through opponents, bypassing conventional physical defenses. 130
  • The domain was used to trap Phil Sadi, whose body was repeatedly passed through by intangible undead that extinguished his vitality and disrupted his spellcasting. 136
  • The banner also houses a Seventh-Ring Chaos Undead created from Lady White Moon’s remaining divine power. 182

Undead Calamity

Undead Calamity is the Undead Race’s primary invasion and expansion method.

  • Undead establish an Undead Space on a living plane and fill it with Blighted Undead Miasma. 262
  • The miasma corrodes living targets, revives local remains, and converts the dead into Soul Fire that can be received by the Dark Plane. 262
  • The technique was initially considered too conspicuous to use against established planes, whose owners could detect the formation of the domain. 262
  • Once the Undead Clan was released, Skeleton Kings used Undead Calamities to invade minor planes, gather souls and bones, and expand the Endless Bone Sea. 340 343 352

Society and Organization

Undying Xuanming God

The Undying Xuanming God serves as the Undead Clan’s central authority. Newly released undead inherit essential knowledge, a trace of the Undying Law, and the potential to become Fourth-Ring Skeleton Kings. 340

Undead worship the Undying Xuanming God and receive orders through its avatar, black stone tablets, and inherited knowledge. 340 352

City of Rest

The City of Rest is the Undead Clan’s planned empire and industrial core.

  • The White-Bone Soul Banner was reforged into the White Bone Hell Disc, the embryonic core of the City of Rest. 287 288
  • Its Undead Space was reorganized into honeycomb-like cells, increasing storage capacity by more than one hundredfold. 287
  • Alchemical runes automatically extract Soul Power and refine ordinary bones into Silver Bones, creating an undead assembly-line system. 287
  • The Palace of Rest was established in the Dark Plane as the City of Rest’s fortified central structure. 294
  • The White Bone Hell Disc’s Undead Factory can retain up to thirty billion undead, selectively keeping former extraordinary beings as workers. 351

Hungry Ghost Hell

To prevent mass mental collapse, the consciousnesses of imprisoned undead are transferred into a spiritual illusion within the Undying Divine Kingdom.

  • The illusion resembles a harsh Hungry Ghost Hell of barren mountains, stagnant water, white bones, black winds, and a crimson sun. 288
  • Artificial hunger compels undead to hunt Chaos Undead and consume Soul Fire. 288
  • This illusion synchronizes with real-world bone refinement, allowing the undead to work without directly experiencing the oppressive conditions of the Undead Factory. 288

Undead Code

Yin Ming established the Undead Code to replace pure coercion with a system of incentives and territorial authority.

  • Only crystalline-grade undead may participate in Undead Calamities; weaker undead refine Undead Bones. 343
  • Undead Bones may be exchanged for Divine Jade Bone upgrades or used to establish Undead Territory Cores. 343
  • Half of all refined material must be contributed to expanding the Endless Bone Sea. 343
  • Fourth-Ring Skeleton Kings can use Undead Bones to obtain high-potential subordinates. 343
  • Successful Skeleton Kings are promised Undying Law Imprints and eventual promotion to Seventh-Ring Subordinate Gods. 343

Relationships

  • Yin Ming / Undying Xuanming God — Creator, ruler, and architect of the modern Undead Race. He uses undead as workers, soldiers, researchers, and the foundation of his life-and-death reincarnation system. 237 256 343
  • Lady White Moon / Lucky Star Lucia — Source of the White Moon undead disaster and the original divine power behind the Undead Orb, Divine Jade Bone, and Seventh-Ring Chaos Undead. 87 182
  • Undead Bigmouth Demon — Early Gold- and Crystal-Bone undead commander. It managed undead production, led battlefield formations, and later adapted to the relative freedom of Hungry Ghost Hell. 135 136 288
  • Skeleton Kings — Fourth-Ring undead territorial leaders who conduct Undead Calamities, recruit subordinates, and construct the City of Rest through Territory Cores. 341 343
  • Liches — Undead researchers responsible for developing Blighted Undead Miasma, the Undead Calamity model, and inherited undead knowledge. 260 262 276
  • Tree Ancestor Sadi — A Third-Ring peak treant resurrected as an undead servant because Yin Ming considered its research talent too valuable to discard. 233

Story Role / Major Arcs

White Moon Disaster

Undead first appear as a catastrophic force when Lady White Moon’s moonlight revives corpses and transforms living beings into skeletons around Hurricane City. 87

Treant Conflict

The banner’s undead army defeats Twisted Treants by bypassing physical defenses, draining vitality, and spreading Samadhi Divine Flame through Soul Fire carriers. 130 135 136

Founding of the Undead Race

Yin Ming refines the Lich Transformation Potion, establishes the conceptual Netherworld System, and creates a Dark Plane-compatible undead ecology based on Blighted Undead Miasma. 237 256 260

Rise of the City of Rest

The White-Bone Soul Banner evolves into the White Bone Hell Disc and then the City of Rest’s core, creating an automated undead production system powered by mass imprisonment, refinement, and reincarnation. 276 287 288

Undead Calamities

Tens of thousands of Skeleton Kings invade the Bess Subplane, destroy its Wizard Black Tower, convert surviving wizards, and establish the Undead Code to guide future expansion. 341 343

Endless Bone Sea Expansion

The Undead Clan continues harvesting planes and skeletal materials to expand the Endless Bone Sea. However, rapid advancement and repeated invasions cause severe spiritual contamination, threatening the Netherworld’s long-term survival. 352 371

Trivia

  • The Undead Race considers life and death unable to interact directly; the Undying Divine Kingdom functions as a transfer station between the living world and the undead. 287
  • Yin Ming regards undead as humans who have lost flesh, blood, and vitality rather than as a wholly separate category of being. 349
  • The earliest released Undead Clan members were all given Fourth-Ring potential and inherited the knowledge of Undead Calamity. 340
  • Undead are vulnerable to spiritual contamination; intelligent undead may have shorter lifespans than ordinary mortals unless that pollution can be removed. 366
