Background / History
Fang Jin was the son of Fang Nanchu and Hua Qing. His family was killed when a yacht arranged by Shen Changxiong exploded; Fang Jin survived in the water, but could not save his younger sister, Nannan. Shen Changxiong then took Fang Jin in—not out of mercy, but to turn his enemy's surviving son into someone like himself. 120
Under Shen Changxiong, Fang Jin was abused, starved, and repeatedly locked in an attic. Shen Changxiong's biological son, Shen Laizhang, secretly brought him food through the attic window, creating a debt of kindness Fang Jin never forgot. 82 120
Fang Jin eventually trained himself, amassed enough power to take revenge, and killed Shen Changxiong. He inherited Yuelin Group afterward, despite Shen Changxiong having favored Shen Laizhang publicly. Fang Jin allowed Shen Laizhang to retain generous dividends and protected him for years. 81 101 120
After revenge left him directionless, Fang Jin became obsessively attached to Lu Jiatang, whom he saw as a source of safety and light. His pursuit escalated into threats of self-destruction and conflicts that nearly destroyed Yuelin, causing Lu Jiatang to flee abroad. 72 83
Si You's intervention became Fang Jin's turning point. Rather than pursuing Lu Jiatang when he returned, Fang Jin chose to step back and begin examining his own behavior, marking his first attempt to live for himself rather than revenge or obsession. 81
Appearance
Fang Jin is a striking but unsettlingly pale young man whose beauty is tempered by an initially cold, serpentine presence. 72
- Pale complexion, described as though he had not seen sunlight for years 72
- Beautiful brows and eyes; firm facial lines softened by a delicate quality 72
- Usually associated with white suits or restrained, elegant clothing 72 77
- Low, soft, pleasant voice that contrasts sharply with his intimidating demeanor 72
- His former sinister aura gradually fades as he heals, revealing a calm, refined appearance 86
- Often wears Lu Jiatang's Buddhist prayer beads around his wrist 102 147
Personality
Fang Jin initially appears cold, demanding, and difficult to approach. His fixation on Lu Jiatang, fear of abandonment, and habit of treating affection as something to be seized made him appear volatile and dangerous to those around him. 72 80
Much of his extremity stems from isolation and trauma rather than indiscriminate cruelty. Fang Jin is sharply perceptive, recognizes emotional weakness in others, and repays even small kindnesses with fierce loyalty. His refusal to harm Shen Laizhang despite knowing Shen Changxiong's nature reflects the moral restraint left by his parents' influence. 86 120 142
After Si You forces him to confront his self-destructive patterns, Fang Jin gradually learns to accept comfort, friendship, and care without treating them as debts or traps. He remains sarcastic, proud, hot-tempered, and capable of ruthless retaliation, but becomes noticeably more playful and emotionally open around those he trusts. 81 105 153

Story Role / Major Arcs
Obsession with Lu Jiatang
Fang Jin enters the story as an unwanted interloper at a gathering, having learned that Lu Jiatang may return to China. His past suicidal threats, harassment of Lu Jiatang's circle, and reputation for obsession make him feared by Jiang Tingxu and Zhao Linxiu. 72 73
Si You's Intervention
After recognizing Si You as someone with similar darkness, Fang Jin repeatedly tests him. Si You refuses to fear or indulge him, bluntly tells him that he is heading toward self-destruction, and urges him to stop making Lu Jiatang responsible for his survival. 73 77
At the banquet where Lu Jiatang returns, Fang Jin chooses not to pursue him. This decision begins his slow process of self-reflection and recovery. 81
Family Betrayal and Departure
Fang Jin saves Shen Laizhang from drowning, but the event reawakens memories of Nannan's death and exposes Fang Jin's wish to die. 87 88

Recovery in Uranium River
While living alone in Uranium River, Fang Jin slowly accepts practical comforts such as medical care, heating, food, and friendship. Lu Jiatang secretly arranges much of this support, including a new doctor, supplies, and security. 99 102 105
Fang Jin eventually allows Lu Jiatang back into his life, though he remains wary of being hurt again. Their reconciliation progresses from uneasy domestic proximity to an explicit relationship. 106 113
Reconciliation and New Life
Fang Jin formally ends his brotherhood with Shen Laizhang after explaining Shen Changxiong's crimes and declaring that they can no longer be brothers. 120
