Background

Lightning is not among the Five Elements. Cultivators without lightning affinity find it more than ten times harder to cultivate than compatible elemental spells, but its speed and destructive force exceed ordinary techniques. It is associated with slaughter, destruction, purification, and the ability to counter yin, evil, and defiling powers. 6 17

Dong Lin’s spiritual-root test records a medium elemental affinity of 43, with lightning as his sole compatible element—an unprecedented result according to Elder Xu. Though compatibility affects ease of cultivation rather than absolute possibility, this affinity lets Dong Lin develop Lightning Arts at an abnormal pace. 6 14
