Background / History

Shennong first appears as an elderly herb-gatherer in a forest near the Land of Sky. He identifies Zhi Ge's Scorch Release burns and Magnet Release fragments at a glance, then offers to heal him with the Mystical Palm Technique. Upon noticing Zhi Ge's Konoha forehead protector, he becomes openly hostile toward Leaf ninja; Ringo Ameyuri deceives him by claiming Zhi Ge is her Mizukage-ordered prisoner. Shennong accepts the explanation and takes them to the Land of Sky 216.

The “Land of Sky” is revealed to be a floating aerial war fortress containing aircraft, tanks, armed helicopters, warships, and an aircraft carrier fleet. Shennong's supposed refuge is a trap: his castle contains captives enslaved by sound-based genjutsu, and he attempts to contain Zhi Ge and Ringo within the fortress 217.

After exposing his benevolent persona, Shennong leads the Land of Sky's assault on the Land of Fire and Konoha. He presents the invasion as vengeance for the destruction of the Land of Sky, intending to conquer the Land of Fire rather than merely raid Konoha 220 222. Hiruzen Sarutobi later states that the Land of Sky was destroyed in the previous war, exposing Shennong's revenge narrative as a false pretext for his campaign 245.

When conventional invasion fails, Shennong sacrifices the power of the flying fortress to summon Zero-Tail Void. He is intensely arrogant in battle, repeatedly demanding that Zhi Ge kneel and submit while dismissing the Uchiha clan as insignificant. As commander, Shennong treats his own forces as expendable.
