Background / History
The Beasts Pirates were Kaido’s military organization and one of the major territorial powers of the New World. Their strength rested on Kaido’s personal power, a large artificial Devil Fruit army, senior commanders known as the Three Disasters, and a network of territories, armories, factories, and treasure reserves 250 555.
After Whitebeard’s death, Kaido formed an alliance of convenience with Wano Country’s shogun. Together, they assassinated the daimyo Kozuki Oden and seized Wano, which had previously been protected by Whitebeard. The shogun sought political control, while Kaido sought territory and military influence 467 515.
The organization’s artificial Devil Fruit forces were created through Caesar Clown’s research and supplied to Kaido by Donquixote Doflamingo. More than 500 Beast Soldiers were stationed in Kaido’s forces, though their abilities came from artificial fruits rather than naturally occurring Devil Fruits 250 555.
Personality and Organization
The Beasts Pirates relied heavily on intimidation and Kaido’s reputation. Their members mocked the Straw Hat Alliance and dismissed its attack on their armory, believing that no force would dare challenge Kaido directly 542.
Their structure was militarized and hierarchical, with Kaido at the top, the Three Disasters beneath him, and large groups of artificial Devil Fruit users and subordinate pirate crews below them. The organization’s strength also depended on logistics: weapons production, territorial wealth, and the ability to replenish its forces 554.
The loyalty of many subordinate crews was conditional. When Kaido’s death became likely, several captains abandoned the Beasts Pirates rather than risk their lives for him, revealing that many had joined for survival or advantage rather than genuine devotion 587.
Abilities & Military Assets
Artificial Devil Fruit Army
The Beasts Pirates maintained one of the largest known Devil Fruit-based armies in the New World.
- More than 500 artificial Devil Fruit users served under Kaido 250 555.
- The soldiers were known as the Five Hundred Beast Soldiers 555.
- Their artificial fruits were created by Caesar Clown and supplied through Doflamingo 555.
- The army was powerful enough to serve as the main defensive force of Kaido’s headquarters.
- Their existence depended on continued production; after Caesar was captured by William, no new artificial fruits entered the market 459 555.
Command Structure
Kaido’s forces were organized around powerful commanders and specialized officers.
- Kaido of the Beasts — supreme commander and territorial ruler.
- The Three Disasters — Kaido’s highest-ranking commanders; Drought Jack was dispatched to hunt the Wano fugitives on Zou 191 427 467.
- Five Hundred Beast Soldiers — the primary artificial Devil Fruit army 555.
- Subordinate pirate crews — independent crews operating under Kaido’s protection and authority 587.
Fleet Operations
The Beasts Pirates operated large warships and reinforcement fleets throughout Kaido’s territory.
- Five ships encountered near Zou were each comparable in size to a large Marine warship 427.
- The ships carried roughly 200 guards in total and were sunk in a coordinated assault by William’s forces 427.
- Reinforcement fleets attempted to return to Wano after the headquarters came under attack 587.
- Their fleets were vulnerable when Kaido’s main forces were deployed elsewhere.
Weapons and Supply Network
The organization’s power depended on industrial and financial infrastructure.
- A major weapons factory supplied Kaido’s forces with arms and revenue 542.
- Long-range cannon emplacements defended the factory island 542 543.
- The Straw Hat Grand Fleet destroyed the factory and its cannons, disrupting Kaido’s ability to resupply 542 543.
- The Heart Pirates were assigned to seize the treasury so the Beasts Pirates could not finance a recovery 554.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Artificial Devil Fruits used by the Five Hundred Beast Soldiers 250 555
- Large pirate ships comparable to Marine warships 427
- Long-range cannons and armory defenses 542 543

- Territorial treasure reserves used to fund military operations 554
Relationships
- Kaido of the Beasts — captain and supreme ruler; his death caused the organization’s collapse 586 589.
- Wano Country’s Shogun — political collaborator who helped Kaido assassinate Kozuki Oden and seize Wano 467 515.
- Drought Jack — senior commander and one of Kaido’s Three Disasters; he was sent to Zou to hunt the Wano fugitives 191 427 467.
- Q and k — the remaining two members of the Three Disasters during the Wano battle; both were later killed 554 588.
- Caesar Clown — creator of the artificial Devil Fruits used by Kaido’s army; his capture halted further production 459 555.
- Donquixote Doflamingo — supplier who sold Caesar’s artificial Devil Fruits to Kaido 555.
- Straw Hat Alliance — primary enemy responsible for the attacks on the Beasts Pirates’ fleet, armories, headquarters, and Kaido himself 427 542 586.
- Gecko Moria — enemy whose shadow ability ultimately created the weakness that killed Kaido 545 585 586.
- New Whitebeard Pirates — rival force that attacked and reclaimed former Whitebeard territories after Kaido’s defeat 587.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Zou
The Beasts Pirates first became a direct threat when five of their ships reached the waters near Zou. William recognized an opportunity to weaken Kaido while Kaido and his senior commanders were absent. The Thousand Sunny’s forces sank all five ships in a coordinated attack involving William, Sanji, Tanji, Brook, and Kuma 427.
The attack was followed by the defeat and death of Drought Jack. William’s group delivered Jack’s head to the Marines for a bounty, while Kaido and the Wano shogun blamed Kozuki Momonosuke for the loss 429 467.
Preparation for the Wano War
The Straw Hat Alliance gradually dismantled the Beasts Pirates’ strategic advantages before attacking Wano. The Barto Club and Handsome Pirates destroyed a weapons factory and its defensive cannons, while other allied forces infiltrated Kaido’s territory and prepared diversions 542 545.
The alliance also targeted Kaido’s treasury. Cutting off both weapons production and financial reserves was intended to prevent the Beasts Pirates from rebuilding even if Kaido survived the initial battle 554.
Battle of Wano
The alliance entered Kaido’s headquarters and fought through his artificial Devil Fruit army. William ordered the Castle Army to engage the Five Hundred Beast Soldiers while the alliance’s strongest fighters advanced toward Kaido 555.
Kaido’s forces suffered heavy losses as the alliance divided its forces between the Beast Soldiers, the Disasters, the shogun, and Kaido himself. The Beasts Pirates’ headquarters was eventually destroyed by an Explosive Rock blast, although Kaido survived and continued pursuing William 571.
Fall of Kaido
Kaido’s final defeat resulted from a combination of accumulated attacks, Gecko Moria’s shadow theft, and William’s removal of the clouds that had provided Kaido temporary shelter. Direct sunlight destroyed Kaido’s body and killed him 585 586.
With Kaido dead, the Beasts Pirates lost their central authority. Wano returned to the Kozuki Family, and the organization’s remaining commanders and subordinate forces were defeated or scattered 586 589.
Notable Quotes
“Fire! Make these fools who don’t know their place understand the consequences of provoking us!” 427
“Lord Jack was killed by a bounty hunter!” 467
“I’ll show you why the flowers are so red.” — Kaido 571
Trivia
- Luffy initially misunderstood the name “Beasts Pirates,” asking whether Kaido was a zoo director. Most of the organization’s animal transformations came from artificial Devil Fruits rather than naturally occurring Zoans 550.
- The Beasts Pirates’ power depended as much on factories and treasury reserves as on individual fighters; destroying both was central to preventing their recovery 542 554.
- Wano was originally associated with Whitebeard before Kaido seized it after Whitebeard’s death 467 515.
- Kaido’s death liberated every island under the Beasts Pirates’ rule 586.
