Background
Zi Yu grew up lonely and often wished for an older sister who could guide and protect her. She began dreaming of such a sister in childhood; those dreams became increasingly frequent until Qing Yu began manifesting as a separate personality within the same body. 232
Her shared body contains two distinct personas and two streams of true qi. Zi Yu is the younger, violet- or purple-eyed sister, while Qing Yu is the older, azure- or cyan-eyed sister; their differing eyes and qi become visible when control shifts between them. 241 242 495
Zi Yu first approaches Duan Yun as someone seeking treatment for the pain and instability caused by her condition. He identifies her as ill and promises to treat her, beginning their unusual physician-patient relationship. 228
After Duan Yun subdues and treats the sisters, Zi Yu remains at Jade Pearl Manor. She claims she wants material for her writing and later agrees to help protect Ning Qing under an undisclosed arrangement with Duan Yun. 242
Appearance
Zi Yu is described as a beautiful, delicate-looking young woman with an exceptionally flexible body. Her appearance changes subtly with Qing Yu’s emergence, especially through their contrasting eye colors. 241 478
- Zi Yu’s eyes — described as violet or purple when she is foremost. 241 242
- Qing Yu’s eyes — described as azure or cyan; one eye may change color when Qing Yu awakens. 241 495
- Combat bearing — can shift from fearful or flustered to a commanding “Sword Immortal” persona once her sword intent rises. 495 497
Personality
Zi Yu is imaginative, excitable, and intensely driven by stories. She writes fiction constantly, invents elaborate scenarios around people she knows, and researches practical subjects so her writing can depict the world convincingly. 242 513 Her imagination also makes her highly susceptible to fear in supernatural settings, though she repeatedly follows Duan Yun into dangerous places despite that fear. 392 497
She is proud of her swordsmanship and can become theatrical after a breakthrough, loudly styling herself as a Sword Immortal. Beneath the bravado, she is aware of her limits and often relies on Duan Yun for reassurance when facing threats beyond ordinary martial artists. 495 497
Qing Yu is more mature, composed, domineering, and openly ambitious than Zi Yu. She is drawn to Duan Yun’s rise and wants to secure a place at the center of the Jade Pearl Heroes, sometimes treating her younger sister as both a rival and an extension of herself. 226 398 Despite their frequent arguments, the two cooperate instinctively when survival requires it. 242 495
Abilities & Skills
Moon-Cloaking Light-Shaming Sword
Zi Yu’s signature sword art creates mirror-like sword light that exposes shame, guilt, and hidden thoughts. It can weaken opponents whose minds are unsettled and can be amplified into a giant reflective mirror in battle. 242 395
- Splits a single chain sword into two separate swords when Zi Yu and Qing Yu fight together. 242
- Uses reflection and psychological pressure rather than raw cutting force alone. 395
- Its effectiveness can turn inward; Zi Yu herself may be affected by reflected embarrassment or desire. 395
Dual Consciousness and Blade-Sword Dual Mastery
Zi Yu and Qing Yu can each control a weapon at the same time, allowing one body to wield a saber and sword in radically different styles. 495
- Zi Yu controls refined, mirror-like Sword Qi.
- Qing Yu produces broad, forceful Blade Qi with mountain-cleaving force. 495
- Their coordination lets them perform techniques that Duan Yun considers difficult even with his own World-Shaking Wisdom. 495 509
- The sisters argue constantly, and poor synchronization can limit their effectiveness. 495
Lightning-Spinning Sword
Zi Yu can send Sword Qi along curving, lightning-like paths that continue pursuing a moving target. 495
- Used to chase escaping Palace of Origin priestesses through the air. 495 496
- Can change direction repeatedly to follow evasive movement. 496
- Its lightning-like trajectory resembles Duan Yun’s own techniques, prompting him to demand “copyright fees.” 495
Iceheart Art
A calming cultivation method used to stabilize the mind and restrain desire. 496
- Allowed Zi Yu to recover from dependence on the true qi Duan Yun transferred into her. 496
- Initially failed to suppress her cravings until she intensified her focus through jealous and possessive thoughts. 496
Research and Writing
Zi Yu’s work as a writer gives her unusually broad practical knowledge. 513
- Recognizes and interprets ancient Moon Palace and Palace of Origin lore. 396 397
- Understands feng shui, dragon veins, and Dragon-Seeking and Acupoint-Pointing methods. 513
- Has studied hydraulic engineering and helped turn Springwatch City’s river excavation into a major construction project. 385 440
- Creates convincing false identities and backstories during infiltrations. 600
Relationships
- Duan Yun — Ally, combat partner, physician, and source of complicated romantic feelings. They share true qi in battle, with Zi Yu eventually drawing power from him rather than merely supporting him. 228 495 509
- Qing Yu — Zi Yu’s elder-sister persona sharing the same body. They bicker and physically fight each other, but achieve their strongest sword-and-saber state when their wills unite. 232 495 509
- Feng Ling’er — Fellow Jade Pearl Heroine and frequent romantic rival. Zi Yu teases her with fictional portrayals, while Feng Ling’er distrusts Qing Yu’s scheming behavior. 242 397
- Shen Ying — Fellow Jade Pearl Heroine. Shen Ying and Feng Ling’er cooperate to capture Zi Yu when the sisters attempt to flee, and both remain wary of her motives. 242
- Murong Brothers — A concerned ally who believes Zi Yu may be connected to his missing sister and urges her to accept treatment. 241 257
- Ning Qing — Zi Yu promises to help protect her as part of a private agreement with Duan Yun. 242
