Byakugan Malfunctions

"I'll tell you about the makeup exam in detail later. Ye Fan, wait off to the side for now until I finish this class," Iruka said.

Ye Fan did not mind and stood to one side, watching the little brats attend class.

"Everyone, stand properly! We'll now begin practical combat training. Find yourselves opponents!" At Iruka's shout, the children began moving.

Ye Fan noticed that one child had not moved. She stood there quietly, and after everyone else had chosen sparring partners, she was the only one left.

"Iruka-sensei, who is that little girl? She seems a little unsociable," Ye Fan asked curiously.

What truly intrigued him was that the little girl had a pair of eyes unlike those of ordinary people. Her pupils were white, without the slightest trace of black.

"That is the young lady of the Hyuga Clan, Hanabi Hyuga. Today is her first day at the Ninja Academy, so no one knows her very well yet. Don't underestimate her. At her current level, ordinary Genin would not be her match." Iruka's gaze also turned toward the girl.

When Hanabi Hyuga had been brought to the Ninja Academy, he had been quite shocked. After all, barring unforeseen circumstances, this frail-looking girl would be the future successor of the Hyuga Clan, upon whom the clan had placed high hopes.

"Oh, so she already has the strength of a Genin?" Ye Fan became even more interested.

"That should be right!"

As Iruka spoke, he could not help recalling the students who had graduated from the Ninja Academy last year. The student who had become a Genin with the top ranking had also come from the Hyuga Clan.

Just as Iruka was momentarily distracted, an arrogant child's voice rang out. "Haha, you're all too weak! As expected, I, Konohamaru, am destined to become Hokage! I'm the strongest here! Who else wants to challenge me?"

Several children lay beside him, panting heavily. They had likely all been defeated by him.

Iruka was about to go over and scold Konohamaru for being so arrogant when the little girl named Hanabi Hyuga suddenly walked toward him and said emotionlessly, "I'll be your opponent."

Konohamaru looked Hanabi Hyuga up and down, still speaking with disdain. "You're the new kid from today, right? Don't say I'm bullying you. I'll let you have one of my hands."

After saying that, he actually tucked one hand behind his back.

In just one exchange, Konohamaru's body flew away like a kite with its string cut.

The battle ended so quickly that Iruka did not even have time to warn him.

"Konohamaru, are you all right?!"

Iruka hurried over and helped Konohamaru, whose body was twitching slightly, up from the ground.

The scene fell silent. Every child stared blankly at Hanabi Hyuga, who stood where she was. Some looked at her with admiration, while others were terrified.

Iruka's smile was stiff as he said, "Thank you for teaching Konohamaru a lesson today!"

Konohamaru had not suffered any internal injuries, but he was still taken to the medical room. Perhaps that was the special treatment afforded to the Hokage's grandson.

Naturally, class still had to continue, but after such an incident, the atmosphere became rather stifling.

The other children did not dare look Hanabi Hyuga in the eye. They seemed too shocked to face her directly, and no one dared become her practice opponent.

At that moment, Hanabi Hyuga was using the Byakugan's abilities to observe and analyze her classmates.

She could clearly see the amount and flow of chakra within the other students. They were all far too weak; not a single one stirred her fighting spirit. She did not understand why her father had sent her here.

In her view, studying alongside these peers was simply a waste of time.

Just as she was about to withdraw her Byakugan, she accidentally spotted Ye Fan standing to one side, and her gaze could no longer move away.

"What is going on? What is happening inside that person's body? What exactly is that energy gathered in his lower abdomen? It's so immense. Why is the energy in his meridians so strange? The way that energy flows doesn't resemble chakra at all. What is it?"

In an instant, several questions surfaced in Hanabi's mind. She had never seen anyone so strange.

After a brief moment of stunned silence, Hanabi Hyuga walked toward Ye Fan.

Ye Fan was slightly surprised, but he remained where he was. Even the expression on his face barely changed.

"Are you a teacher here?" Hanabi Hyuga asked.

"No."

Ye Fan looked amusedly at the little girl who had approached him of her own accord, unable to understand what about him had attracted her.

"Then who are you? What is this energy inside your body?" Hanabi asked again.

"Oh? You can see the energy inside my body? Is that the ability of your eyes?" Rather than answering, Ye Fan asked a question in return.

"You don't even know about the Hyuga Clan's Byakugan? Are you an outsider?" Even as Hanabi Hyuga questioned him, she continued observing the energy within Ye Fan's body.

"If she can see inside my body with her eyes, then it probably isn't a Divine Sense-type ability. X-ray vision? Interesting!"

The corners of Ye Fan's lips curved slightly upward. He raised a finger and lightly tapped several points on his body.

"What did you do?"

Hanabi Hyuga cried out in alarm. To her astonishment, the strange energy inside his body had vanished, as though it had never existed.

"Can you still see it with your eyes now?" Ye Fan smiled faintly.

For a cultivator, there were countless methods for concealing one's strength.

Hanabi Hyuga wore an adorably blank expression at that moment. She had never expected her Byakugan to malfunction as well.
