Background / History

The Sharingan is the Uchiha clan's bloodline limit. It normally requires intense spiritual stimulation to awaken; clan records describe the process as difficult to control and prone to pushing users toward extremes. Those who fail to awaken while young are considered unlikely to do so without another major stimulus. 7 9

The Uchiha developed the Mind Reflection Technique in an attempt to create a gentler awakening path. It imitates the chakra and spiritual changes produced when the Sharingan uses hypnosis, reverse-stimulating the brain, visual nerves, body cells, and spiritual power. The technique was considered nearly ineffective by the clan, though awakened users confirmed that it could promote further evolution. 9

Uchiha Qian was initially judged to lack the aptitude to awaken the Sharingan, even after learning of his parents' deaths. His Proficiency Panel nevertheless recorded an unawakened Sharingan, and sustained Mind Reflection Technique training eventually brought it to full awakening. 2 7 27

Appearance

When activated, the Sharingan turns the user's pupils scarlet and forms black tomoe around a central black pupil.
