Background / History

Tony Stark constructed a crude Iron Suit while imprisoned at a Ten Rings camp. The suit weighed roughly one ton, used an Arc Reactor for power, and enabled Tony to break through the cave door during his escape attempt 2 3.

Su Zheng immediately demonstrated that the armor was vulnerable to Magnetic Field Control: he detached the suit from Tony and assembled it around himself, then transferred it again to Ethan. The suit could operate while worn by Su Zheng despite his lack of an onboard reactor, with Su Zheng supplying its movement through magnetism 3.

The original suit was later recovered in pieces and reassembled by Stane's people, who used it as the basis for a stronger Iron Armor 5. Stane's larger armor was likewise seized and disassembled by Su Zheng during their confrontation 8.

After Tony promised Su Zheng one hundred personally built, latest-model Iron Suits, Su Zheng took Tony's eight existing suits from their display stands, including the Mark 2 through Mark 5 and War Machine 38 40. Ivan later commandeered hundreds of mass-produced suits against Tony; following Ivan's death, Su Zheng collected the surviving suits and left more than two hundred of them with Tony for upgrading and conversion into Su Zheng's intended force 42 45.

Appearance

Iron Suits are metal-powered armors with a futuristic mechanical design. Their exact forms vary from Tony's crude cave-built prototype to compact suitcase armor, standard red-and-silver models, heavily armed derivative units, and three-meter-class heavy armors.

Ten Rings Escape

Tony completes the first crude Iron Suit during his captivity. Su Zheng finds him after eliminating the Ten Rings camp and uses magnetism to transfer the armor between Tony, himself, and Ethan 2 3.

Stane's Iron Armor

Stane obtains the reconstructed prototype as a blueprint for his own larger armor. During the ensuing battle, Su Zheng stops the armor, strips it from Stane, assembles it onto himself, and kills Stane with it 5 8.

Su Zheng's Hundred-Suit Demand

After stopping Ivan at the racetrack, Su Zheng demands that Tony repay his rescues by building one hundred Iron Suits. Tony agrees after Su Zheng helps resolve his palladium poisoning 38 39.

Seizure of Tony's Collection

Su Zheng claims all eight suits in Tony's possession, including the Mark 2, Mark 3, Mark 4, Mark 5, and War Machine, to motivate Tony to manufacture replacements 40.

Ivan's Iron Suit Assault

Ivan takes command of hundreds of suits and attacks Tony's villa. Su Zheng freezes the entire armor-and-missile formation, kills Ivan by crushing his heavy suit into scrap, and takes control of the remaining units 41 42.

Planned Autonomous Force

Su Zheng returns more than two hundred mass-produced suits to Tony as material for upgrades, while directing him to build a dedicated AI-controlled armor force with increased internal weapon capacity 45 46.
