"Boom!!"
A deafening roar suddenly exploded, and the Caravel shook violently. Towering waves swept across the deck, forcing the entire sailing ship under the water, leaving only the tips of its three masts protruding. The two sailors cutting the ropes had not secured themselves firmly; now, before they could even grunt, they were instantly swept away by the waves.
Bruno's whole body went light. He was completely submerged, then floated up from the deck again. Eyes shut, holding his breath, he clutched the cable with a death grip, his fingernails digging into his flesh. The surging waves rolled over him several times, but still failed to carry him off. Only after a full dozen seconds did the crest of the giant wave depart in regret, letting out a terrible sigh.
"Voom—bang!"
The giant waves piled one atop another, endless as far as the eye could see. The Caravel was like a toy in a giant's hand: first pressed into the water, then lifted by the waves, until at last the bow abruptly rose from the sea, only to smash heavily back down, giving off a teeth-aching hum.
".Crack!"
Waves rolled and winds surged. The stern mast of the sailing ship came under too much force and abruptly snapped! Afterward, the broken stern mast, carrying the sail with it, was swept away by the tailwash of the giant wave. A sailor tied to the mast's cable let out half a despairing cry before the sky-high tide struck him, and in an instant his figure was gone.
Before the majestic power of nature, mortals were nothing but ants struggling in vain, waiting in despair for fate's merciless judgment!
