Crisis and Resolve

"Good thing you were here today." The corners of Uchiha Lan's mouth lifted. His smile was as warm as sunlight, though the pain of his wounds made it tremble.

"Be more careful next time. I might not always get there in time." Hatake Sakumo's expression remained stern, but the concern in his eyes deepened.

Uchiha Lan nodded gently. His voice was weak but firm. "I know, Sakumo. I came far too close to dying this time. Those enemies were much stronger than we expected—like a pack of wolves, cunning and vicious."

Hatake Sakumo held his gaze. "Yes. We both have to get stronger. Once we're back, we need to work out what went wrong in that fight. We can't let the enemy outmaneuver us so easily again." He helped Uchiha Lan up with exquisite care, afraid even the slightest touch against his wounds would cause him more pain.

Back at camp, medical ninja hurried over to treat them. Hatake Sakumo watched them work in silence, lost in thought. Every moment of the battle replayed in his mind, each detail painfully clear. He clenched his fist and swore to find a way to counter those enemies. No matter how much effort it took, he would not let his comrades face such danger again.

Lying on the treatment bed, Uchiha Lan turned toward Hatake Sakumo. "Don't blame yourself too much, Sakumo. Battles are unpredictable. We're both still alive, and that's the best gift we could have asked for." Hatake Sakumo came to his side and gently took his hand. "Focus on getting better.
