Background and History

Tang Shuo awakened a damaged copper mirror martial soul at age six with no apparent soul power. Tang Hao regarded the martial soul as worthless, abandoned Tang Shuo in Holy Soul Village, and left with Tang San; Village Chief Old Jack found the starving child and raised him thereafter 1.

Rather than discard the mirror, Tang Shuo discovered that it could absorb sunlight and convert it into Solar Divine Radiance. He cultivated alone on the village cliff for years, gradually revealing golden divine runes beneath the mirror’s rust-like surface 1.

The mirror was ultimately revealed to be an external portal rather than his complete martial soul. Within his sea of consciousness rested the Eastern Emperor Bell, and the greater martial-soul form behind its artifacts was Eastern Sovereign Taiyi 3 30. After the bell’s awakening, Tang Shuo left Holy Soul Village to obtain a soul ring and begin life as a Soul Master 3.

Appearance

Tang Shuo is a handsome youth with clear eyes, black hair, and an unusually composed, ethereal bearing. Even when wearing worn coarse linen clothing in Holy Soul Village, he carried himself with a straight, pine-like posture; after his later cultivation, Ye Lengleng notices that his features become sharper and his presence more restrained and unfathomable 1 43.

  • Upright posture and calm gaze 1
  • Often conceals his aura and returns to an outwardly ordinary appearance after displaying power 3
  • Uses a mask when competing publicly as Shuofeng 47

Personality

Tang Shuo is disciplined, self-reliant, and intensely ambitious. Years of abandonment and solitary cultivation did not make him surrender; instead, they convinced him that outward judgments of talent are meaningless. He openly declares that he will become the continent’s strongest Soul Master, despite Tang San and Xiao Wu dismissing him as powerless 2.

He is normally calm and emotionally restrained, even when confronting stronger enemies such as Dugu Bo or dangerous soul beasts. His confidence can appear reckless, especially when he pursues vastly over-aged soul rings, but he also plans carefully when confronting threats beyond his present strength 9 25 33.

Tang Shuo consistently intervenes when others are endangered. He saves Zhu Zhuqing from an assassin, treats her cold poison, protects Dugu Yan from inherited poison backlash, and stops Ma Hongjun from assaulting a civilian 3 9 26 40. He values practical strength, resilience, and composure over pedigree or reputation 49.

Abilities & Skills

Eastern Sovereign Taiyi

Tang Shuo’s complete and true martial soul is an imperial, godlike form associated with the sun, moon, chaos, and nine blazing suns. The Eastern Emperor Mirror and Eastern Emperor Bell are manifestations or weapons connected to this form rather than the entirety of his power 30.

  • Releases overwhelming imperial pressure capable of forcing powerful soul beasts into submission 7 24.
  • Suppresses residual soul-beast wills during otherwise impossible soul-ring absorptions 25 36.
  • Its aura can affect Heaven Dou City, draw the attention of Qian Renxue and Bibi Dong, and neutralize a spatial rift observed by Bo Saixi 31.
  • Tang Shuo’s mortal body cannot yet sustain Eastern Sovereign Taiyi’s complete divine power; he can currently use only a trace of its divine soul power 18 30.

Eastern Emperor Mirror

The mirror was initially believed to be Tang Shuo’s damaged copper mirror martial soul. It channels solar power and possesses extraordinary support, healing, defensive, and restorative functions 1 11.

  • Absorbs sunlight and converts it into Solar Divine Radiance 1.
  • Enhances an ally’s attack power, speed, senses, and combat effectiveness severalfold 6.
  • Heals injuries, suppresses cold and poison, and restores damaged tissue 6 9 23.
  • Its Great Sun Divine Light revives dying solar-attributed spirit herbs and accelerates their growth toward maturity 14.
  • Sun True Fire can dissolve soul-power pressure and reinforce Tang Shuo’s body 11.

Eastern Emperor Bell / Chaos Bell

The ancient bell is Tang Shuo’s most destructive and defensive manifestation. Its sound and suppression power affect both physical targets and souls 3 24.

  • A single Hongmeng Dao Sound instantly destroys a three-ring Soul Venerable and shatters his soul rings 3.
  • Return to the Void annihilates the critically wounded ten-thousand-year Blazing Sun Golden Falcon, leaving only its soul ring 8.
  • Forms defensive barriers capable of blocking toxins, venom, and Dugu Yan’s Jade Phosphor Needles 21 28.
  • Damages and suppresses an enemy’s soul before annihilating its body and poison 24.

Soul Skills

  • First Soul Skill: Solar Corona Divine Wheel — A blazing golden divine wheel obtained from the ten-thousand-year Blazing Sun Golden Falcon. It launches destructive solar attacks and can overwhelm higher-ranked opponents 8 28.
  • Second Soul Skill: Soul-Devouring Hand — A black ghost claw obtained from the fifty-thousand-year Nine-Heart Toad. It withers vegetation and drains vitality and spiritual essence 25.
  • Third Soul Skill: World-Annihilating Nine Heavens Flame — A small-looking but terrifying flame gained from the Crimson Sky Flame Dragon’s fifty-thousand-year ring; Dugu Bo judges it capable of burning everything in existence 36.

Myriad-Poison Fiend Legs

A body-tempering cultivation art and the second component of Tang Shuo’s intended Primordial Hongmeng Divine Body 18.

  • Requires Myriad-Poison Fluid made from countless toxins, including Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor Poison 19 30.
  • Repeated destruction and reconstruction strengthen Tang Shuo’s legs, bones, muscles, meridians, and poison resistance 31 32.
  • Grants immunity to ordinary toxins and enables poisonous leg techniques, including Myriad Poison Killing Leg 32 41.
  • The cultivation process severely damages his body without external healing support 30 31.

Primordial Yin-Yang Hands

A technique cultivated with the Infernal Delicate Apricot, Eight-Angled Mysterious Ice Grass, and the opposing energies of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 37.

  • Allows Tang Shuo’s palms to wield both extreme cold and fire energies 39.
  • Can disrupt an opponent’s vital energy and inflict devastating internal damage 39.
  • Forms one of the five foundational components of the Primordial Hongmeng Divine Body 18.

Physical Combat and Movement

Tang Shuo’s body cultivation, speed, and close-quarters skill let him defeat opponents without using his martial soul or soul skills.

  • Overwhelmed Dugu Yan through fists, kicks, elbows, knees, and superior reactions before summoning his martial soul 28.
  • Evaded Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix Fireline and incapacitated him without initially using his martial soul 40.
  • Defeated fifty consecutive Great Soul Arena opponents—many within three exchanges—using only physical ability, movement techniques, and palm strikes 46.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Royal jade token — Given by Xue Qinghe; permits Tang Shuo to seek aid at the Crown Prince’s Residence 41.
  • Golden Spirit Arena Badge — Earned after fifty consecutive one-on-one victories as Shuofeng 46.
  • Jade vials — Used to store rare poisons, including Scarlet Flame Spider Emperor venom and the condensed venom essence of the Nine-Heart Toad 23 25.
  • Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower — An immortal herb Tang Shuo gives Ye Lengleng to improve her physique, foundation, and Nine-Heart Begonia martial soul 44.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father. Tang Hao abandoned Tang Shuo after judging his copper mirror martial soul worthless and continues to dismiss him in favor of Tang San 1 32.
  • Tang San — Younger half-brother. Tang San pities and belittles Tang Shuo, believing them to belong to “different worlds”; Tang Shuo declares that Tang San will never reach his level 2.
  • Old Jack — Guardian and grandfather figure. Old Jack takes Tang Shuo in after Tang Hao abandons him and supports his daily cultivation 1 3.
  • Zhu Zhuqing — First major ally and admirer. Tang Shuo saves her from an assassin, supports her during soul-beast hunts, temporarily suppresses her cold poison, and promises to find a permanent cure 3 6 9.
  • Ye Lengleng — Academy senior, healer, and close companion. She heals Tang Shuo through his poison-body cultivation, receives an immortal herb from him, and later asks to become his two-on-two arena partner 30 31 44 47.
  • Dugu Yan — Ally and poison source. Tang Shuo repeatedly treats her inherited Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor poison backlash, while she provides the natal poison needed for his cultivation 26 29 32.
  • Dugu Bo — Initially hostile Titled Douluo who becomes Tang Shuo’s ally after learning Tang Shuo can treat the Dugu family’s poison problem. He grants Tang Shuo access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and pledges future aid if Tang Shuo acts righteously 33 36.
  • Qian Renxue / Xue Qinghe — Cautious ally and potential political partner. Tang Shuo saves her in the Star Dou Great Forest, accepts her royal token, and privately recognizes her identity beneath the Xue Qinghe disguise 21 41.
  • Ma Hongjun — Enemy. Tang Shuo intervenes when Ma Hongjun attempts to assault a young woman and leaves him severely poisoned and crippled, creating Ma Hongjun’s lasting hatred 40 41 45.

Heaven Dou Imperial Academy

After withstanding Bai Baoshan’s escalating soul-power pressure, Tang Shuo is admitted as the academy’s most honored student. He uses the Eastern Emperor Mirror to revive dying spirit herbs, meets Ye Lengleng and Dugu Yan, and begins using his solar power to treat poison backlash 10 11 14 17.

Trivia

  • Tang Shuo’s first and second soul rings are respectively ten thousand and fifty thousand years old, both vastly beyond conventional absorption limits 8 25.
