Background

Li Ya was a Li Family prodigy and the first-year Rocket Class monitor at Bay City Martial Arts High School. He was considered a future seedling because he had approached Great Completion of Bright Force while still in his first year. 22 30

Before Yang Sheng's rise, Li Ya used Yang as a sparring partner whenever Li Yan rested. Yang later recalled the broken ribs and repeated abuse inflicted by both Li Ya and Li Yan. 22 39

Li Ya was placed on the school-test candidate list against Yang Sheng despite the apparent disparity between their cultivation levels. Jiang Tian believed the arrangement was a deliberate attempt to eliminate Yang Sheng and suppress Lower Registry students. 23

He began by attempting to overwhelm Yang Sheng with successive punches and a kick, but Yang Sheng narrowly evaded the punches and used Whirling Wind Hand to redirect his kick, disrupt his balance, and slap him across the face. 39

Li Ya then revealed his concealed cultivation and broke through to Great Completion of Bright Force in the arena. Even at his full strength, he could not land a decisive blow; Yang Sheng redirected another attack with Whirling Wind Hand and Cloud-Crushing Strike, sending him flying with a second slap. 40

Yang Sheng ultimately crushed Li Ya's abdomen, shoulder, and thigh with three punches. Li Ya surrendered when Yang's Heart-Piercing Elbow stopped just short of his head, but the released force still mutilated his face. Yang Sheng then broke Li Ya's remaining intact hand and leg before leaving him unconscious. 41

Death

After the school test, Li Ya was found dead in what was publicly described as a suicide. The reported circumstances were highly suspicious: he had allegedly hanged himself after binding his own hands and feet. 51 52 59

The Li Family erased Li Ya from its genealogy and did not pursue public retaliation against Yang Sheng. Jiang Tian and Yang Sheng both suspected that a powerful third party had intervened. 52 59
