Undying River, one of Reed Plain Country's lands, had been reduced to a dead zone thousands of years ago when the Heavenly People came to plant a Divine Tree, draining all vitality and wiping out every living creature.
Yet thousands of years later, life had begun to flourish again. This was exceedingly rare throughout history, and thus this land came to be known as Undying River.
The target assigned by Hell this time was located in Undying River!
Undying River was bisected from south to north by a river. Faults in the riverbed had formed tiered waterfalls, a breathtaking wonder of the world.
Beneath the vast waterfall, stretching endlessly from east to west, lay a small island shrouded in red light.
A massive crimson totem stood at the center of the island. It was an Ōtsutsuki treasure—the Heavenly Totem.
The red domain emitted by the totem could not only block perception, but also protect its user, grant them enhanced power, and weaken nearby enemies. Most terrifying of all... it could nullify all long-range ocular techniques!
Leaning against the totem stood a burly bald man in monk-like robes. The Byakugan in his left eye bore a "+" pattern, while the one in his right eye had a "-" pattern, resembling plus and minus signs.
Both Byakugan had been inscribed. They surely contained secret arts as powerful as Isshiki's Sukunahikona and Wan Sheng's Divine Eight-Ear Command.
His name was Ōtsutsuki Mushiki, the sixty-seventh-ranked powerhouse of the main family!
Not far from him, another man of ordinary build sat cross-legged in meditation.
The man wore a white haori, with two spiral horns growing from his head, short spiky hair, and... a pair of Six-Tomoe Rinnegan!
