Nature and Circulation

Dou Qi is the energy cultivated within the body and circulated through its meridians. Cultivation techniques determine how it is refined, stored, and used; Xiao Yan’s Flame Mantra repeatedly gathers Dou Qi to contain the Volcanic Rock Flame during refinement. 5

Its quality and quantity directly affect a cultivator’s combat endurance. Prolonged use of powerful techniques can exhaust reserves, while unstable advancement may cause cultivation to regress if external energy is depleted before a breakthrough is completed. 51 79 160

Elemental Attributes

Dou Qi may carry distinct elemental properties that shape a cultivator’s fighting style.

• Fire-attributed Dou Qi can fuel flame techniques, weapons, and large-scale attacks; Xiao Yan also uses surrounding fire-attributed Dou Qi as fuel during combat. 49 114
• Wind-attributed Dou Qi supports Jia Tianyu’s high-speed movement, evasive ability, wind bows, and arrows. 49 50

Combat Techniques

Dou Qi powers offensive, defensive, movement, flying, and weapon-based techniques.

• Xiao Yan channels Dou Qi into the Black-Weight Ruler to strengthen its strikes. 50
• His self-created techniques combine Dou Qi with Heavenly Flames, including the Flame Emperor Armor, Scarlet Flame Arrow, and Flame Emperor Arrow. 51 52
• Advanced techniques may combine Dou Qi with physical strength, soul power, Dragon Power, and spatial control for power approaching the Heaven Tier. 176

Armor and Defense

Great Dou Masters can externalize Dou Qi into armor. Xiao Yan improves this principle by combining it with Heavenly Flames to create the Flame Emperor Armor. 13

• The Flame Emperor Armor has roughly triple the defensive power of ordinary Dou Qi armor. 13

Dou Qi supports both terrestrial mobility and aerial combat.

• The Wings of the Eagle is a flying Dou Technique that allows flight comparable to a Dou King. 11

Cultivation Resources and Enhancement

Dou Qi can be increased through disciplined cultivation, medicinal resources, natural energy, and rare flames.

• Heavenly Flames provide enormous energy. Xiao Yan estimates that an intact flame may raise a cultivator by two or three stars within the same realm, or by far more when the cultivator is at a lower realm. 4
• Medicinal pills can force or support breakthroughs. Purpleheart Barrier-Breaking Pills can raise a Da Dou Shi’s cultivation, while a Dou Spirit Pill unconditionally raises a Dou King by one star but can only be used once. 58 160
• Natural energy can be drawn into the body, though maintaining prolonged absorption relies on soul power rather than Dou Qi alone. 18

Stability and Foundation

Rapid growth does not remove the need to stabilize Dou Qi.

• Xiao Yan deliberately remains at the Peak Great Dou Master level to strengthen his foundation and stabilize his mental state before advancing. 63
• After reaching the peak of Four-Star Dou King, he suppresses a possible further breakthrough to consolidate his cultivation and condense stable Dou Qi. 160
