A Desperate Moment

For ninjas, forests were actually very advantageous, because they could leap from tree to tree.

But people on the ground had a much harder time running. The forest was full of weeds, and in some places there was no path at all, forcing them to push through the grass, where bushes could easily block their way.

But Blade and the Witch had no time to worry about that. Whenever they encountered a difficult stretch of ground, they simply jumped over it, or had the Witch blast a path open with magic. Fortunately, the Witch restrained herself and did not use fire magic to clear the way. If this vast forest caught fire, it would be a disaster for both people and animals.

The Witch was kindhearted after all. She could not simply ignore everything else just because she wanted to escape.

"I wonder where those bandits came from. Once we get back, we should report them to the Adventurer Guild."

Blade said with a grim expression.

His precious weapon had been left behind in that bandit hideout. He was definitely going back for it. He and the Witch could not defeat them, but surely they could call in more Silver Rank adventurers. At worst, they could use numbers against fewer opponents. No matter how formidable those bandits were, how many could there be?

In Blade's eyes, there could not be more than five bandits stronger than him.

But if there were, then he would admit defeat.

He simply did not believe there could be more bandits than Silver Rank adventurers in a border town.

Just as the Witch was about to speak, a somewhat familiar voice rang out.

"Go back? Sorry, but you probably won't be going back."

The instant that voice sounded, both Blade and the Witch's expressions changed
