"What the hell was Chameleon talking about? Ghosts? Ha! Just an excuse for screwing up!" The shadowy figure sneered, but his smile soon faded. He had entered Qin Fen's house twice and found nothing.
He couldn't risk making too much noise, and the house was huge. Today, he planned to make one final search. He certainly hadn't encountered any ghosts. Forget ghosts—he hadn't even found anything unusual in the house, apart from that pile of wine pots that looked almost indistinguishable from the real thing. He wanted to leave, but his superiors had given their orders, so he had no choice but to come. Besides searching Qin Fen's house, he had another task: investigate Dragon Pool Lake.
Well, looking at that sizable lake sent a chill across his forehead. Investigate it, my ass! I'm all alone here. How many lifetimes would it take to search a place this big?
He calmed himself and turned around. "I'll finish up here today first. At least then I'll have something to report. After that, it's the lake. The sooner I get this done, the sooner I can leave this little backwater!"
Once the guards were far away, he grabbed the iron fence and vaulted up. Then... then he sat on top of it in a daze.
