The Temple Guard Corps stared in bewilderment as the strange elves charged from the far side of the battlefield toward the endless demon army before Hellgate. Their hands froze halfway up, unsure how to greet them.
Fortunately, the Justice Knights knew who the Undead were. Their colleagues in the Silver Shield Knights had returned from Faerunriel with plenty of strange stories.
They were deeply grateful that the Undead had saved their lives, but they had also shared plenty of tales too absurd to put into words.
Most importantly, because the Undead could not die, they fought with near-reckless abandon. The Silver Shield Knights envied them so much that they often brought it up while recovering in Neverwinter.
For Holy Knights devoted to justice, being able to fight demons without hesitation or worry about casualties sounded perfect!
The Justice Knights had never feared death, but surviving to kill a few more enemies of the Evil Alignment—that was the perfect life.
The Justice Knights differed somewhat from Tyr's other clergy. Most Holy Knights who joined them had sworn to fight demons to the bitter end.
Otherwise, the Justice Knights would not have been the largest organization at Hellgate.
They explained the Undead to the other temples with a hint of regret, never noticing that many listeners were interested in something else entirely.
Not everyone willing to fight demons to the bitter end came for justice or revenge. Some came to earn merit. Most good and even Neutral Alignment forces in Faerûn looked favorably on anyone who fought demons here.
It was a little like offering a bounty, but any clever ruler understood that passion alone rarely persuaded people to risk their lives.
