Its edges still trembled faintly, like the wound of a living thing. A chill rose from below, carrying the aura of death.

He did not rush down.

The sense of being watched had vanished, but Chu Hang knew whoever it was had to be nearby. They were probably gathering reinforcements to come after him.

That was fine. By the time they arrived, he would have the trident and be gone.

Chu Hang leaped into the rift.

The sensation of falling was strange. It was not ordinary free fall; it felt more like an invisible force dragging him downward. Space twisted and turned around him as he passed through a tunnel with no visible end, surrounded by chaotic gray mist.

Three seconds later, his feet touched solid ground.

He opened his eyes. His surroundings had changed completely.

This was not the seafloor.

Dry black rock lay beneath his feet. There was no seawater overhead, only darkness so thick it seemed solid. Enormous stone pillars rose all around him, each over ten meters wide and stretching beyond sight into the dark.

Strange patterns crawled across the pillars. They looked like ancient writing, or perhaps veins. A dim crimson glow seeped from them, lending the place an eerie air.

The stench of blood and rot filled the air.

Chu Hang looked around and quickly reached a conclusion.

This was an independent space, separated from the seafloor by someone with extraordinary skill. It was remarkably stable, without the fragility of an ordinary pocket dimension that might collapse at any moment.

Whoever had created it was powerful.

Peak Skyfather-level at least, and perhaps even on the threshold of Universal-level.
