The door to Charles's office was not fully closed, and the sound of an argument carried out.
"You can't do this, Erik." Charles's voice was tense.
"Then tell me, what can peace buy us?" Erik's voice was icy. "Humans will never accept us. You built this school and taught these children to control their abilities, and then what? Make them bow their heads and live obediently?"
"I'm teaching them how to survive."
"No, you're teaching them how to kneel."
The door opened, and Erik walked out, his face livid. He glanced at Chu Hang in the hallway without saying a word, then headed downstairs.
Chu Hang pushed the door open and entered.
Charles sat in his wheelchair, fingers pressed against his temple.
"Come in."
"Erik is leaving?" Chu Hang closed the door.
"Yes." Charles lowered his hand. "He thinks I'm too weak."
"What do you think?"
"If he uses slaughter to buy peace, hatred will only continue forever."

"Training continues today." Charles turned his wheelchair around. "Come with me underground."
In the training room, Charles got straight to the point.
"I'm going to teach you Mind Control."

"Why?"
"You'll need it sooner or later," Charles said. "Rather than have you figure it out on your own, I might as well teach you. Besides, if Erik truly leaves, the school needs stronger power."

"Mind Control is different from Telepathy," Charles explained. "Telepathy is listening. Control is giving orders. Imposing your will upon someone else."
"Dangerous."
"Yes. It's equivalent to killing their sense of self." Charles's tone was grave. "That's why I never use it lightly."
