The Grayson family's yard was packed with black SUVs.

More than a dozen agents moved through the ruins, the instruments in their hands beeping nonstop. The dining room area had been blasted into a huge crater, with broken bricks and shards of glass strewn everywhere.

Cecil Stedman stood at the edge of the crater, looking at Nolan trapped inside a force field.

Omni-Man was curled up inside the translucent energy cage like a dead dog, his skin pale, his muscles limp, his eyes vacant. "The Global Defense Agency's job is to monitor threats." Cecil nodded. "Your father came to Earth twenty years ago, and we identified him immediately. But we had no way of dealing with him. All we could do was watch, wait, and pray he would never bare his fangs."
