If Lu Zhi finds out I gave this to Shen Qi when I was a kid, he'll celebrate while hugging a vat of vinegar, then probably tear down your Anomaly Management Center while he's at it."

"You don't want to keep filing facility damage claims with President Lu, do you? Asking for money hurts relationships, you know?" Shen Ranxin patted the director on the shoulder and pressed the diamond into his hand. "So just keep this. If Lu Zhi sees it and asks, say you picked it up off the road. Okay?"

The director fell silent for three minutes. He looked at Shen Ranxin, sighed, and nodded.

Shen Ranxin waved at him, turned, and got into the car.

The director stood shoulder to shoulder with Lu Yeshan, watching Shen Ranxin's car disappear into the distance.

"Tell me, if Little Seven had even a fraction of his free-spiritedness, would things not have come to this?" The director rubbed the diamond in his hand as he spoke.

Lu Yeshan snorted. "Could there be anything wrong with the person my son fell for? If Ranran had been as obsessive as your Little Seven, after everything he went through, he'd have been out on the streets with a cleaver by now."

"...What do you mean, your son?" The director jabbed at him. "He's not even your biological son."

"So what if he's not?" Lu Yeshan clicked his tongue. "I'm the one who taught him!"

"Wake up. The one you taught is still lying in a medical pod."

A week later, Shen Ranxin had mostly recovered. Lu Yeshan called to tell him
