First, he had to stand up! After all, the difference in height affected one's imposing presence too much. Jing Yi shamelessly pretended he had forgotten about the Lolita dress he was wearing and swayed over to brace himself against the wall.

As for why he had to stand against the wall—he had too little experience with standing and always felt like he might topple over at any moment. This way was a little steadier.

"Every child about to marry the one they love is this adorable... Shall we take our leave first and stop disturbing him?" Jing Yi's stepmother covered her mouth as she laughed. "As for the wedding arrangements, shall we discuss them privately, Madam Qin?"

"Exactly so." Madam Qin nodded reservedly, then turned and left under Jing Yi's stepmother's escort.

Jing Yi, crippled in both legs and speech, shakily stretched out an Erkang hand!

Two hundred years ago, during their expansion, the Mi Star people discovered an extraordinarily bizarre star system—one planet in this system was almost as large as an ordinary star, and of its seven planets, five actually harbored life! If humanity could settle there, with such an enormous territory, they would strike it rich!

The native creatures had no intelligent species, but they seemed enormous. Creatures over ten meters tall and twenty meters long were everywhere, and even larger ones were not uncommon. More and more landing parties were sent afterward, but every time they were completely annihilated. The Mi Star people began to realize that they had gravely underestimated the ferocity of the native species. Even with advanced weapons and mecha, they were still utterly unable to withstand them.

Thus, the situation reached a stalemate. The five newly discovered planets were like a slab of fat meat, spurring the Mi Star people to strive harder. Over the past two hundred years, technology exploded. Though the Mi Star people still could not take that slab of fat meat, they had become capable of getting close enough to sniff it—civilian mercenary groups and small military units occasionally landed in secret and brought back some supplies. If they were not too greedy and truly had the skills, they could make a fortune. Of course, plenty of unlucky people still never returned every year.

The road was winding, but the future was bright. The Mi Star people had always believed that it did not matter if they could not eat that slab of fat meat now; sooner or later, it would be theirs!

Then, fifty years ago, the Mi Star people suddenly discovered another civilization. It was roughly as advanced as they were, and when its reach extended here, the five planets became the point of contact. The moment the two sides met, tensions immediately flared!

Against such a backdrop, the military naturally became an increasingly powerful department with an ever-greater voice.

Jing Yi fretted for a while, racking his brains as he searched through the background information about this world in his mind. Being a widow before marriage was too evil. No matter what, he had to escape this miserable setup, right?
