"Did experiments get out of control like that often?"
The heir to the Baylands could not help asking.
He had plenty of other questions, but for some reason, that was the one that slipped out.
"It's fairly common during the development of a Magitech Device. But we do most of the dangerous work in the Technology Laboratory. Anything we bring out here is generally safe."
The Apprentice pointed at the mage descending from the sky and said with a smile, "Once this thing is properly built, it'll have a shell to protect the person inside."
"But to be safe during testing, we removed the shell and put a mage inside. That way, he can leave whenever he needs to."
"The Technology Laboratory? Is that some kind of facility?" The heir to the Baylands looked puzzled. He had never heard of it.
"No. It's a place somewhat like a Divine Kingdom, dedicated to the Technology God. Some impressive Magitech Devices have been created there. Contribute enough, and you can enter."
Reverence appeared on the Apprentice's face. "There, we have an endless supply of materials for all kinds of experiments."
"Experiments completed there can generally be replicated in the real world. The remaining risks come from flaws in our methods or materials that aren't pure enough."
"Even so, it makes our experiments run far more smoothly and helps us avoid countless dangers."
"For example, I know a fellow who specializes in making weapons. He created the Legendary Incendiary Bomb they're using north of Watcher's Wall."
"While developing it, he died more than a dozen times in the Technology Laboratory. Imagine what would've happened in the real world."
Hiss—
The heir to the Baylands drew a sharp breath.
Astonishment filled his face.
At first, the name Legendary Incendiary Bomb had meant nothing to
