Fire Country, Konoha, Ninja Academy.
A red-haired boy lay sprawled across the back row, fast asleep.
Iruka, standing at the podium, glanced at the boy, shook his head, and left him be.
"We will now begin team assignments. When your name is called, stand by your assigned instructor."
"Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Team 7."
After the assignments concluded, looking around the empty classroom, the red-haired boy stretched lazily.
Just as he had anticipated, no instructor was assigned to him.
The red-haired boy was named Kanami. Thirteen years ago, he had inexplicably transmigrated as an infant into this world known as Naruto.
Upon birth, he had no idea who his father was, and his mother had died in childbirth.
From then on, his upbringing was accompanied by endless malice; those who knew his mother hated him, to the point that at age six, he took the savings he had accumulated over the years and left those so-called relatives behind, adopting the single name Kanami. The only things worth celebrating were his seven-element chakra and the massive chakra reserves unique to red-haired people.
"Time to go home."
Kanami grabbed his small shoulder bag and prepared to leave.
"Kanami..."
Hmm?
Someone was still here?
Kanami turned his head to see a black-haired girl with white pupils holding a broom and dustpan, cleaning up.
"Ah, Hinata, what's wrong?"
Hinata lowered her head slightly: "Um, it's our turn to clean today."
Kanami and Hinata were paired in a group of two, cleaning every Friday, and today, the final day of team assignments, happened to be Friday.
He had almost forgotten.
Kanami put down his shoulder bag and snatched the broom and dustpan from Hinata's hands.
"You go on ahead, I'll take care of the rest."
Hinata lowered her head and muttered softly: "But... we're supposed to clean together."
"You already cleaned the windows, the balcony, and every corner of the classroom, and you're still going to fight me over the floor?"
Kanami suddenly raised an eyebrow and grabbed Hinata's small hand.
Feeling herself grasped by Kanami, Hinata's face instantly turned crimson, and she instinctively tried to pull her hand away.
"Don't move yet."
Kanami gently opened Hinata's small hand and carefully plucked a few wooden splinters from her palm.
"All done."
After a careful inspection, Kanami confirmed there were no more splinters and let go of Hinata's hand.
Hinata still retained a slight blush on her face: "Thank you... but how did you know I had a splinter in my hand? I didn't even notice..."
"Naturally, because I got pricked by this broom too."
Kanami said, raising the broom. The handle had many small wooden splinters that were indeed hard to notice at a glance.
He had felt a slight pain after gripping the broom tightly for a while, and since Hinata had been washing windows, her hands were damp, making her even more susceptible to wood splinters. As a member of the Hyuga Clan, she hadn't even noticed when her hands were injured; she was simply too earnest about cleaning.
"Ah..."
Hinata felt a bit embarrassed, knowing it was because of her that Kanami had also been pricked by the wood splinters.
"You should head back now, or you'll get yelled at by your father again."
"Ah!"
At the mere thought of her father, Hyuga Hiashi, she panicked, nodded hastily, and hurried out of the classroom.
Still, Hinata felt a bit guilty, and before leaving, she said apologetically: "Kanami... I'm sorry, thank you for your hard work."
Seeing how easily startled Hinata was, Kanami couldn't help but chuckle.
A moment later, after confirming that the classroom was completely empty, Kanami rapidly formed hand seals with both hands.
Shadow Clone Technique!
Poof, poof, poof.
Five clones identical to Kanami appeared.
Years ago, Kanami had discovered that the hand-sealing methods and jutsu principles he knew from his past life were identical in this world. Relying on the memories of his past life, he had basically mastered all the jutsu whose principles he could recall over the years.
"You take the first row, you take the second row..."
Kanami assigned the tasks clearly. With six of them taking one row each, the room was cleaned in just a few minutes.
Done.
Kanami dismissed his Shadow Clone, picked up the shoulder bag on the table, and prepared to leave.
Just then, the door was pushed open.
Haruno Sakura walked in, her pink hair swaying in a flustered manner.
Kanami glanced over, ignored her, and walked toward the door.
"Wait, did you see the thing in my drawer?"
Seeing Kanami leaving without looking back, Sakura grabbed Kanami's shoulder bag.
Sakura said with a cold gaze, "Did you take my thing?"
He really disliked the lovestruck Sakura, and after coming here, he hadn't gone looking for trouble with her, yet today she actually suspected that he had taken her things.
Kanami said calmly, "Tell me, what is the thing you lost?"
Hearing this, Sakura suddenly froze and stammered, "Anyway, it's a little girl's thing, I can't tell you."
As she spoke, she reached to flip open his shoulder bag.
Kanami smiled.
As expected, her upbringing is utterly terrible.
"Kanami! What do you mean by that?"
Seeing this, Kanami stopped joking around and snatched his shoulder bag back.
"I would take your things? The thing you mentioned must be something you prepared to give to Sasuke, right? That's right, using being assigned to the same team as Sasuke as an opportunity to gift it would be the most fitting thing ever, wouldn't it?"
Sakura's gaze flickered, and her heart was shaken.
How did he know that I specially prepared two couple pendants to give to Sasuke?
No!
Sakura's gaze immediately grew even more determined.
"You must have stolen my pendant, otherwise how could you possibly know that I was going to give it to Sasuke?"
Hand it over!
With that, Sakura started lunging forward.
He couldn't even be bothered to put textbooks in his own shoulder bag, so would he put her little girl's pendant in there?
Kanami wasn't going to spoil her; a single Substitution Technique left Sakura hugging a wooden post and tugging at it for ages.
Reacting, Sakura was greatly startled.
She hadn't expected Kanami to use the Substitution Technique with such proficiency.
Usually, Kanami spent every day in class attending lectures, sleeping, going to break, and peeing, just idling his way all the way until graduation from the Ninja Academy. At the time, Kanami had actually passed the ninja qualification examination, which had caused quite a few people to suspect whether he had cheated.
Sakura punched the wooden post away and said viciously, "Hmph, you let me check your shoulder bag to see if my pendant is inside, and I'll spare you!"
Kanami's eyes narrowed slightly, not expecting her potential for monstrous strength to be slightly displayed at this age.
He didn't think Sakura could harm him at this age, but he didn't want to carry this undeserved blame either.
"Check? You can, but what if it's not there?"
Kanami's series of actions had already given Sakura complete confidence in her heart; otherwise, why would he be afraid to let me check his shoulder bag?
Full of confidence, Sakura puffed out her chest. "Impossible! If it's not in your bag, I'll do whatever you make me do!"
"Oh?"
Hearing this, Kanami became rather interested.
"You said it yourself. In a moment, if I do something out of line, Haruno Sakura, don't regret it."
Hearing his words, Sakura couldn't help but shiver.
"B-Bastard, you wouldn't... you wouldn't be trying to kiss me, would you?"
Kiss? You're overthinking it—no wait, you're underthinking it, little girl.
Kanami couldn't help but shake his head and chuckle.
He hadn't expected a lovestruck fangirl to still be so naive.
Though it was normal after all; current Haruno Sakura was only eleven or twelve years old anyway.
"What? Are you regretting it? I don't really care much either way."
With that, Kanami walked past Sakura.
"Who says I regret it!"
Sakura grabbed the hem of Kanami's clothing, a determined expression on her face.
"I'm going to look."
