A man in Marvel, working for the system
Las Vegas, a tourist city surrounded by deserts and barren plains, attracted over thirty million visitors each year. It was known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World" and the "Marriage Capital of the World."
And yet.
Like two sides of a coin, one side was heaven, the other hell: a paradise of material pleasures, a hell for the human heart.
Heaven above.
Everywhere you looked, dazzling lights and lavish pleasures painted a picture of unimaginable prosperity and extravagance.
Hell below.
Gamblers' endless greed, the madness of sudden poverty or sudden wealth, and all the crimes they spawned swallowed human hearts like a whirlpool.
A dim alley.
It was hard to imagine that Las Vegas had a place like this. But it existed. People simply never noticed it—or rather, deliberately ignored it.
A man in a hooded cloak hurried along at a jog, glancing back from time to time.
Behind him.
Two burly men in black suits pursued him relentlessly.
The colorful lights grew brighter, signaling that the mouth of the alley was getting closer.
The hooded man darted into the crowd. Beneath his hood, the corners of his mouth visibly lifted, as though taunting the men in black—
Come chase me out here in public!
The men in black froze for a moment, then chuckled despite themselves.
The entertainment capital... that was what ordinary people called it. In their eyes, Las Vegas was Sin City through and through, every bit as dark as Hell's Kitchen. This city simply wore a glamorous skin, concealing its sins beneath the whirlpool.
The men in black advanced at a leisurely pace, their faces mocking, like cats toying with a mouse.
One of them took out a set of brass knuckles and slipped them on.
