In Marvel, the System Works for Me
Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, was like a coin with two sides:
One side was heaven, a paradise of material pleasures.
The other was hell, a hell within the human heart.
Heaven lay above.
Neon lights and revelry bloomed like flowers, amid splendor and extravagance beyond description.
Hell lay below.
Endless greed and the frenzy of sudden ruin and sudden wealth swirled together, devouring human desire.
In a dim alley,
A hooded man in a cloak broke into a jog, glancing back from time to time.
Two men in black suits pursued him relentlessly.
The lights grew brighter, and the din grew clearer.
The exit was close. Beyond it lay a bustling avenue.
The hooded man suddenly took a long stride into the crowd and stopped. He turned, pulled back his hood, and revealed a sharply defined face.
His black hair was long and slightly wavy.
His skin was bronze.
He had a high nose and full lips.
He regarded the two suited men with amusement, the corners of his mouth lifting in a challenge. His eyes seemed to say:
"Come after me in front of all these people!"
The two men in black suits froze. They hadn't expected him to pull a stunt like that.
Then they sneered and drew their weapons. One slipped on brass knuckles—call him Brass Knuckles—while the other pulled a small knife... Knife Guy?
"Ah! He's got a weapon!"
A sharp-eyed young woman spotted it and screamed, whether in fear or excitement, no one could tell.
The surrounding crowd promptly cleared a wide space. Some called the police, others recorded video, and an orderly, harmonious audience formed around the scene.
