In Marvel, the System Worked for Me
Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, had two sides, like a coin:
One side was heaven—a paradise of material pleasures.
The other was hell—a hell of the human heart.
Heaven lay above.
Neon lights, wine, and luxury bloomed like flowers, a splendor beyond words.
Hell lay below.
Endless greed and the madness of sudden fortunes and ruin swirled together, devouring human desire.
A dim alley.
A hooded man hurried along, glancing back from time to time.
Two men in black suits pursued him.
The lights grew brighter, and the noise grew louder.
The exit was close. Beyond it lay a bustling street.
The hooded man suddenly took a long stride into the crowd and stopped. He turned, pulled down his hood, and revealed a sharply defined face.
His long black hair curled slightly.
His skin was bronze.
He had a high nose and full lips.
He watched the two suited men with amusement, a taunting smile on his lips, as though to say:
"Come after me in front of all these people!"
The two men in black suits froze. They hadn't expected that move.
Then they sneered and drew their weapons. One slipped on a pair of brass knuckles—call him Brass Knuckles—and the other pulled out a small knife... Knife Guy?
"Ah! He's got a weapon!"
A sharp-eyed woman spotted it and let out a scream that sounded as much excited as frightened.
The surrounding crowd immediately cleared a wide circle. Some called the police while others filmed, settling into an orderly spectacle.
"Stop!" the hooded man shouted, taking a step back.
The two men acted as if they hadn't heard him. Far from stopping, they sped up.
Stop just because you said so? What about our pride? That was more
