In Marvel, working for the system
[Unedited chapter. Please do not subscribe. Sorry.] Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, was like the two sides of a coin:
One side was heaven, a paradise of material pleasures.
The other was hell, an inferno of the human heart.
Heaven lay above.
Neon lights and lavish revelry glittered like flowers woven into brocade, a spectacle of indescribable prosperity and extravagance.
Hell lay below.
Endless greed and the madness of sudden poverty or wealth formed a whirlpool of desire that swallowed human hearts.
In a dim alley.
A man in a hooded cloak jogged briskly along, glancing back from time to time.
Two men in black suits pursued him closely.
The lights grew brighter, the clamor clearer.
The exit was close, opening onto a bustling avenue.
The hooded man suddenly took a great stride, darted into the crowd, and stopped. Turning around, he lowered his hood to reveal sharply defined features.
Long black hair with a slight curl.
Bronze skin.
A high nose and full lips.
He regarded the two suited men with amusement, his lips curling, his eyes provocative, as though to say:
"Come chase me in front of everyone!"
The two men in black suits froze briefly, not having expected this move.
Then they sneered and drew their weapons. One produced brass knuckles—let's call him Brass Knuckles—and the other pulled out a knife... Irelia?
"Ah! He's got a weapon!"
A sharp-eyed young woman spotted what was happening and screamed, though whether in fear or excitement was unclear.
An "empty zone" instantly opened around them. Some called the police, others recorded videos, forming an orderly, harmonious gathering of spectators.
"Stop!" the hooded man shouted, taking a step back.
The two men in black suits acted as though they hadn't heard him.
