In Marvel, the System Does the Work
A luxurious villa. The living room.
Sofas formed a circle around a rosewood coffee table. Baroque in style, they were made primarily of teak inlaid with gold and ivory.
Extravagant!
Geralt sat casually on one of the expensive sofas, his fingers tapping a rhythm on the armrest.
Across from him sat Harold Korvos, a middle-aged man who looked old for his age. The villa's former owner had died of a heart attack brought on by overexcitement during sex.
Death in the saddle, as they called it.
In other words, the Harold before him was no longer alive in the usual sense. He was... a ghost.
Born into a family of Demon Hunters, Geralt had seen all kinds of supernatural creatures. But this was his first solo job, and he had panicked a little. He had overlooked the fact that Harold was only a Floating Spirit and nearly beaten his soul to pieces.

Exactly. That's how it was!
Geralt grew more certain by the second. He gave Harold a smile that could have been used in a textbook to illustrate kindness.
Harold froze. It was terrifying.
About ten minutes earlier, the young man had broken into his villa. His face glowing blue-green and blood streaming from every opening in it, Harold had appeared silently behind him and breathed cold air onto the back of his neck.
The young man turned.
Their eyes met.
The young man's eyes flew wide in fright.
The next instant.
A fist swelled in Harold's vision.
Thud!
It struck Harold square in the nose.
*Wait... that wasn't how this was supposed
