After handing Suzaku over to Ajax, Gerard said a few words and had his men escort Xu Xi into a car. He climbed into the first car, opened the sunroof, and lit a cigar with a satisfied grin.

Xu Xi was put in the second car with the driver and two soldiers in camouflage. They were the ones who had aimed laser sights at Suzaku earlier. Now they laughed and chatted, treating this like any other job.

Xu Xi was short and looked a little frail, hardly a match for his threat rating. With tape over his mouth and cuffs on his wrists and ankles, the soldiers hadn't bothered to put a black hood on him.

Xu Xi's gaze settled on a small black bag. His discs were inside.

"Yours?" one of the soldiers asked.

Xu Xi nodded shyly.

The soldier picked up the bag and unzipped it, revealing a stack of long-obsolete discs.

"2000 Everyday English Words."

"Crazy English."

"Master 100 Sentences and Travel Across America."

He took out the discs, read each title aloud, and tossed them aside one by one.

Xu Xi smiled.

The tape over his mouth was actually a tissue disguised with Texture Surprise, and Xu Xi held a blade between his lips. The cuffs on his wrists and ankles had been tampered with; a little force would break them loose.

Gerard had been careless. He hadn't checked closely.

In the lead car, Gerard was in high spirits. He had captured Xu Xi and supplied the Workshop with a test subject. As a salesman, he had quotas to meet.

Suddenly, he heard brakes screech.

The car behind them fishtailed and stopped at the roadside.

"What happened?"
